    Re: Playing a slippery bowlback...

Regular cheap computer mouse pad works. Table side to the mandolin. Sometimes I play mine standing and walking around and the pad works well.

Thank you for these Martin. I've been enjoying Murmuring Brook from post #4 above.
  3. Re: Any sources of classical works for mando and piano?

    Check out this site.

    http://www.federmandolino.it/listing/spartiti_raffaele_calace/04-mandolino_piano/

I'm a fan of Serenata Gaia and Tarantella when I play with the wife (she plays the piano)

    Re: New here--pick question

I have 3 picks I use with my bowlback. The every day pick is a D'Andrea 358 celluloid teardrop. Next is the Clayton Ultem teardrop. The final is a Dogal PM3 teardrop. It's probably the only...

    Re: Laurel vs Yanny

I have to say that I got caught up into this today. I downloaded an audio clip of it and using Audacity, changed the frequency until I heard a difference. It was remarkable at what point it changed...

Thanks for this post and the mention of the Telephone Waltz. Enjoying them both!
  7. Re: Finding Studies on the left hand Pizzicato by Carlo Munier

Thanks to anyone who searched. I finally found it on page 112 of Munier_metodo_pratico_completo_parte_2a.pdf

This will no doubt take a good bit of work to even meander through. And so it begins. :)
  8. Finding Studies on the left hand Pizzicato by Carlo Munier

    Beautiful Song.

    Any help is appreciated.
  9. Re: Seeking Advice on Different Instrument Types

Maybe a 4 string domra would be something you could find locally? I've always wanted to try one myself.

Re: Source for A Variety of Mandolin Music?

Interesting. I think I'll sign up and see what fees are associated with that process.

    Thank you.

Re: Source for A Variety of Mandolin Music?

Thanks, I saw those two. The ecrater has been "On Hold" for at least 6 months and has been sold. The Amazon price is too high for me to pay for want of a single piece.

    I've been searching off and...

Source for A Variety of Mandolin Music?

Would anyone know of a source for the book "A Variety of Mandolin Music" by d'Alton? I'm specifically interested in the piece Bouquet of Flowers by Bernardo de Pace, which from what I gather is...

Use your hole punch and masking tape to make a stencil with the hole size you want. Tape it to your neck and use the paint of your choice. I used the little jars of modeling enamel but fingernail...

    Re: String change frequency

I'm one of those that dread changing strings because I like the sound after they break in for a week or so. That said, I change them out every year or so when the undersides of the strings show...

    Re: Wood and its grain?

I grew up in humid Florida with a sawmill in our back yard. Every wall, floor, dresser, desk, cabinet and table in that house was made from trees we cut, sawed, dried, planed, and built in the shop...

Re: Raffaele Calace in Tablature, 3 Volumes

I can read natural notation in the first position well, but I use tablature as a cheat sheet for positions further up the neck, notes on finger position and key changes. So I read them together and...

Raffaele Calace in Tablature, 3 Volumes

This forum has been a tremendous resource for me over the years. Since I never learned to read music fluently, I've always had to take the time to convert pieces over to tablature. They were made...

    Re: Bowlback Mandolin Help

I just measured my Eastman bowl back.

The spread at the bridge (outside of all strings) is 1.784" or 45.31mm.
The 12th fret (outside the fretboard) is 1.550" or 39.37mm.
    The nut width (outside...

    Re: Mando strings go sharp--why?

Re: Repertoire - good thing or bad thing

I can't read sheet music so I have a binder full of songs I've converted over to tablature with Musescore. Never counted but a 1.5" binder is getting hard to undo the rings without the pages popping...
