    Re: Handling transactions

Paypal. It's easy to setup an account to receive money. make sure the buyer sends money as payment for goods and services, you can easily do this by sending an invoice, or giving them a specific link...

    Re: What’s your travel case?

Crossrock fiberglass case. You can find them on Amazon for $160 at times, or normally 180 bills.

    Re: Notation Software?

I would love Musescore to have a lite menu feature. Something that would make it easy and intuitive to enter in a simple fiddle tune or celtic tune. For that matter, the same with Band in a Box....

  5. Re: Strap attachment - A style, no body button

I just hated the strap on the headstock. Gets in the way. Another option is to use a loop of leather shoe string around where the fretboard and body meet, and attach the strap to that.

    No danger...

    Re: Collings MT Prices

My 2014 MT, purchased in fall of 2014 new with satin finish cost 2300. If I remember right, there was a 300$ difference in gloss top prices.

Re: Trillium Octave mandolin string gauge

    Barry-

The J80 set is good starting place, then you can tweak from that. I have a 22 3/4" Crump OM, and I tried .13, .24, .34 and .45. I bought D'addario chrome steel singles (I like flatwounds),...

    What is the scale length?

Did you just get that Trillium that was in the classified perhaps?
  10. The best thing about ordering from Pinegrove leathers

Is getting an email that says:

"Your order has been dispatched using UK Royal Mail and is on its way to you."

I feel so superior, I imagine a Beefeater marching off to hand my parcel to the...

Re: Loud, or Not So Loud?

From my experience. I would play at night softly my first couple of years, as this was some of the best time to get in undisturbed practice. However, it messed me up because I was practicing playing...

    Re: NMD - Girouard Oval

Loren, I wouldn't say it is any easier, just different. I will say the neck seems to fit well with my grip. I always felt with the collings my thumb was on a steep slope. It wasn't uncomfortable, but...
  13. Re: Varnish finish vs lacquer - durability question

Don't plant the pinky! Problem solved :)

I'd think a clear plastic pickguard on top of a 10k mando would look just as bad as a worn spot. Or embrace that it will have a worn spot, imbue the...

  15. Re: Small speakers revisited, and we have a new winner: Sony XB-2

Try the Adam A3x. Might be a bit pricy at 350 each, but man are they great for a nearfield system.

    NMD - Girouard Oval

New mandolin day, my new Girouard A Oval arrived yesterday morning. I have been too busy playing it to post or record anything, but here is a start. I opened the box to check on it when I got it,...

  18. Re: Finished Notation for the Tab Addicted Mandolinsit Now What?

What kind of music are you playing? I have been using a lot of celtic music to practice my reading. My go to is thesession.org, once I find the setting of the tune I want, I display the notation,...

Re: Tips for beginners 1st camp

I'd add don't feel like you have to attend every class, if you can take a break, it can allow you to sleep in or take a nap so you can participate in some jams.
  21. Re: Joining the Girouard club - commissioned a build!

    Getting closer..

I have cleared the way for this one by selling my beloved Collings MTO. I am now "stuck" with only my PW Crump octave mandolin until it arrives.

Re: Should I Buy an OM

    Short answer: Yes

Long answer: If it is just to participate in the session, then it depends on what you can add to the session. As stated before, if there is a guitar or zouk playing rhythm, then...
  25. Re: Jams / shows / Meetups in Chicago, Columbus OH, & San Antonio

Fumee will be playing Monday from 8-11 at the Rogers Park Social club. Best deal in town imo (tip jar), great drinks and a wonderful band playing gypsy jazz.

What type of jam are you looking for?...
