    Re: Setting pickup height?

The closer the pole pieces are to the string, the more current the pickup will produce BUT if you get too close magnetism from the pickup will effect how the string vibrates causing a perceived loss...
  2. Re: Need advice on how to set up for looping

Here's a video of me with my Infinity Looper. It's lots and lots of fun!

Re: mike for fiddle uses needs no power

For the sake if $8 I took a chance and ordered one of these Dovewill Cherub Clip-on Violin Pickups. It certainly does the job in a cinch.

Re: Why So Few Resonator Mandolins?

I have a Republic reso and learned most of the songs in Rich's blues mandolin book - the two go together very well.

Many of the old resos [and the Johnsons/RecordingKings] don't have neck...

It won't be released for another 9 years. The copy on the page reads:

I'm not at the show this year so one of the Cafe members will have to investigate and report back.

These guys are the greatest. One year I was hanging beside a booth and Tony Levin stops beside me and started chatting. You meet the nicest people at NAMM.

    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

Thanks. From what I've been able to gather they announced the Tenor Tele last year as a limited "alternate reality" run of under 1,000 that just started shipping a few weeks ago. Apparently once...

Re: Alternate Reality Fender Tenor Tele

Some do and some don't. I did a search and it's inconsistent. Adding more baffle is that ukes tend to be tuned in 4ths leading one to think a 9th fret marker would be the preferred placing.

Re: Alternate Reality Fender Tenor Tele

Interesting factoid - ukes are the largest selling stringed instrument in the world by a long shot. Guess that's where the money is.

Re: Alternate Reality Fender Tenor Tele

And just to keep things interesting Fender is releasing a bunch of ukeleles with the fret marker at the 10th. I don't play uke but the tunings appear to be generally in 4ths and pics show the fret...

Re: Mandobird pickup upgrade success, mostly.

IME bass and mandolin work best with a full-range signal path. In both cases pickups that don't color the sound work best so what works on one should be fine on the other. Mandolin requires mid-range...

Don't flame me but the saddles that come with it are far superior in every way.

Perhaps. The big red flag for me is the mention in the Cafe article that Stewart only remembered "someone from the band" played the part, not the particular band member. That smacks more like "oh...
