Re: Quick Gibson A set up question

I have a vintage A with a fairly high action and got a luthier to lower the nut slightly. In answer to my question on the forum, someone (Dave Cohen, would that be his name, it was a long time...

    Steve Cropper

I am having a lot of fun playing Steve Cropper rhythms on the guitar. Has anybody ever tried doing this or heard anybody doing this on the mandolin?

Thanks for your replies. I am a fairly competent player. I was thinking more in terms of chordal work behind his riffs.

    Route 66

Suggestions please. A friend has sent me a recording of him playing Route 66. Blues version not the jazz version.
He is kind of playing a riff and chords. He wants me to put a mandolin on it. Any...
  10. Re: There is no right way to hold a pick. There is only your way.

Excuse me if I have already posted a similar comment. I spent quite a years trying to hold my pick the standard way after spending most of my musical life holding it between three fingers. I just...

    Re: Balance when mixing

Thanks everyone for this invaluable advice. I understand the idea of equalisation but what do mean by cutting frequencies? If you have the time to make a quick summary for bass, guitar and mandolin.

    Balance when mixing

I like recording with mandolin, acoustic guitar, bass guitar (acoustic but plugged in) and vocals. Obviously overdubbing.
Nothing fancy, I just use Audacity
My question is how do the various...

Re: Nice Little Wing Cover on Mandolin

Thanks for the information, Drew. He also tunes his guitar down a semi-tone on some of his recordings. Is that a standard practice in some circles?

Re: Nice Little Wing Cover on Mandolin

It's really excellent. I can't seem to find any other mandolin tunes by him though.

Re: Mandolin (guitar) and bass duo

Thanks Keb. I have just listened to the samples on I-tunes and it's true the music is superb. The mandolin and bass are a perfect fit. I'm not mad about the voice though.

Brel was raised by Flemish parents in Brussels so I am not sure how far his soul was Gallic. I think he had struggled a lot with his identity, as a Fleming living in a primarily French-making city...
