    Re: 1959 Sorkin/Stradolin Catalogue Pages

Those Premier guitars were made by United. It seems that Peter Sorkin bought from United for along time- and Oscar Schmidt before United was founded.

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

I have found a spouse for the Sam Goldberg mandolin- I think they go together well as a couple. She's more curvy as females tend to be and her hair is nicely waved- Sam's mandolin's hair is a bit...

    1959 Sorkin/Stradolin Catalogue Pages

This shows the mandolin range in the 1959 Sorkin catalogue- we see a couple of Blue Comet mandolins as well. Not a perfect spread I am afraid but it helps fix an era for some Stradolin types.

For that price, you would expect something exceptional in terms of its sound.

    Re: Identify unmarked piccolo?

The tuners with that style of button and tailpiece looked old to me but could have been recycled.

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

When I was a kid, I think I saw one of these in an early Dr Who episode in the 1960s- when the world was invaded by Mandomen. The price is pretty reasonable for nominations to this thread and it will...

  8. Re: 1935/36 Wards Fall/Winter Catalog Gibson made mandolins

For those who are interested, Ranger Doug is writing a biography of Carson Robison- someone who has been relatively obscured by the fame of other singing cowboys.

    Re: Polishing Gibson Tailpiece Cover

If the tailpiece is from about 1910 onward, it is a nickel silver alloy- not plated, so it should not be a problem polishing one of that type.

    German 12 String Mandolin 1910-1930

There was somebody enquiring about 12 string mandolins and their availability in Europe, a while back. This one- probably made around the time of WW1 has appeared on eBay in t UK.

Re: Ray Jackson -- Lindisfarne and Rod Stewart

My first ever concert was headlined by Lindisfarne, with support from Genesis and Rab Noakes- it was 1972 and Lindisfarne were absolutely massive. After all, that year, Bob Johnston, no less,...
  12. Re: Can anyone help me identify this unknown mandolin?

Yes, you may well have found the maker- those f holes suggest the maker might be this Japanese company you have found.

    Re: A lovely old 1907ish A4 .. but wait ...

I sent the photos to my luthier and he says he loves that sort of project- he did one Gretsch electric that had been attacked by a wife with some heavy implement and smashed to pieces. This was a...
  14. Re: Can anyone help me identify this unknown mandolin?

Was it a small sticker like this example down below in terms of size? The size is mentioned at the bottom of the listing and it is 1 in X 3/16 in. I found a Japanese Stradolin for sale on eBay- so...

Re: 1920ish Martin built? For S.S. Stewart

This mandolin has been identified by the assessor/repairer as a Martin made S S Stewart bowlback. The headstock shape is the same as the concurrent Style B flatback from Martin.

Re: Tuner Flat Head Cog Screws-Found a source!

This thread about a Martin mandolin with Waverly tuners would be worth posting a link on as the owner was missing these screws. It is a recent thread and if you post a link to this or repeat your top...

Re: This is how Gibson looked to Czechs

Back in the 1930s, the London dealers would get makers in Schonbach, Czechoslovakia, to make copies of the latest American developments. I have seen- but it cannot be found now, a Schonbach made...
  18. Unused circa 1930s 12 string mandolin tuners

There must be somebody with an old German 12 string mandolin who could use new tuners. These are in Poland and are presumably old stock that has been unearthed.

I'm going to send my luthier a photo but I will phone him later to tell him I am not going to buy it! He's repaired far worse but he's had a few health issues and does need to be overburdened!

    Re: A lovely old 1907ish A4 .. but wait ...

Yes, a real beauty, for sure. I have seen cracks described as "age lines" but such an euphemism would not do this justice. That's an el mondo grosso crack but it can be fixed.

    Re: "Marcelli" Bowlback

The headstock of your mandolin should like this one. It may well be that Meinel & Herold of Klingenthal made your mandolin. There are differences but this firm made mandolins with this style of...
  24. Re: Help!!:I have aqquired an Unmarked unnamed 7 string banjolele

  25. Re: Help!!:I have aqquired an Unmarked unnamed 7 string banjolele

The tuners are German made- so it was probably made somewhere in Europe. It's hard to give a date- probably after WW2 and possibly in the Eastern Bloc but I am surmising from those tuners. Tuners...
