    Question if I may.

Hi, I have not been here for years. Guitars are what I do most of but I'm keen to make more newfangled mandolins - even though I only know of 2 or 3 players in this country of 57 million. The few...

    3 models

I have made 4 models to date, only the 3 newest ones here. These are not made in the conventional, they are hewn from a solid block.

    Comparing 2 mandolins

Here is the comparison between myhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoBEVCij56w Broadway mandolin with leg cutaway and the one without. It's probably not a true test as I used slightly different woods....

    Fret markers

Why is the 10th and not the 9th marked? Just happened to notice and after building many guitars, I automatically marked the 9th here.

    Re: Opus mandolin

I'm about half and hour from Edenvale. I do not make many but I guess they would start at $2500- The original Broadway would be around $4000- and the Broadway I am working on now about $2500- ...

    String spacing

Thanks for answering my questions guys. This one is about string spacing on the new Broadway. I have made the nut 30mm - a bit wider than the old standard. Is 2mm clearance to the fingerboard...

I designed and made this over a year ago and to date, I have not been able to find anyone to test it and my playing is terrible. I was advised to go with 4 strings because it is an electric (but has...

Just found that post, thanks. I did answer there but here it is again. I do spend a lot of time on aesthetics but my first priority is ALWAYS sound quality (check out my guitars on youtube). There...

Re: Another Cool Looking A (?) Model

There are 2 reasons for the brightness. First the leg cutaway steals a lot of real estate and the carved crease in the top makes it extra stiff. I'm not an acoustic engineer, no but although I spend...

    Re: Truss rod or not?

I've built a lot of guitars and found out along the way that angled long grain is better than quarter sawn (depending on wood type). I've used neck wood at around 45 degrees here, with an ebony...

    Truss rod or not?

With a neck that is short and stout and assuming we have stable wood, is it absolutely necessary to fit a truss rod? I do not know the answer, but I guess, if the neck has been well made, that it...

Re: Nut Slots Cut Too Low

I use the tiniest drop of superglue (just enough to fill the slot) applied with a pin. Works perfectly, you may have to use a nut file to make the groove a bit deeper.
