Re: How can you fix a botched finish?

You can shave (or scrape) drip marks down with a disposable razor blade. Just be sure to put some tape on the corners or gently bend the corners up with your thumbs so they don't dig into the finish.
  2. Re: srpaying clear hi gloss lacquer on Danish oil finish ?

A lot of finishes marketed as an oil finish are actually either a oil-varnish blend (oil varnish with straight oil added to it) or a wiping varnish (usually a oil varnish thinned with mineral spirits...

I'm not exactly sure about technical drawings/plans, but copyrights usually last for 50 or 75 years depending on whether the original creator owns it or if it was work made for hire. Either way, the...

Re: Sharp String Phenomenon (or not)?

Fiddles use friction pegs which tend to act differently than geared tuners. Tuning issues vary from violin to violin, but they still suffer from some of the same problems like going sharp or flat...

Re: What the heck is that your sitting on?

I like Ron-N-Soc stools. They're made pretty close to where I live. I use one of the tower stools but the thrones have an optional backrest and are adjustable in height. ...

  8. Re: Releasing Titebond I - removing fretboard and top

Yes, Titebond will release with heat and steam. I've taken a fingerboard off with just an old iron and no steam. Get the fingerboard warmed up, then work a thin knife into the seam. I think it...

    Re: Micarta fretboards

A sharp band saw blade will cut it, but be careful of the dust. I'd wear a dust mask and some glasses.

Re: Which Allen Tailpiece to get?

I think both are designed to retrofit a carved top mandolin, and they're both cast/1-piece units so there probably wouldn't be a noticeable difference in sound. I'd say go with the one you like the...

Re: .012 diameter E string on Stiver Mandolin

Shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure there's enough width in the nut and saddle slots for the larger strings. Also, the added tension (around 8 pounds or so according to D'addario's specs) might...
