  1. Re: Martin A Style vs. Eastman 315 for Folk & Bluegrass

If the check will clear, you’re worthy:)
  2. Re: Martin A Style vs. Eastman 315 for Folk & Bluegrass

Nope. If you can play, it’ll sound good no matter what the style or brand.

But with the economy down, buying an f hole mandolin, more bang with an A vs an F, you’d be doing a public service:)

Just read that he has succumbed to coronavirus. A hero of mine for a long time. So sad.

    Interesting questions.

    1. Some folks do, but not common AFAIK
    2. a. Yes, the response will change. Whether you can hear it is another matter.

Re: Breaking in or Opening Up

All of my mandolins open up with new strings. When the old strings start to fall asleep, I change picks to a spare one of my 153 different picks. It’s just amazing.:)

    And I’m sure my hearing...

How do you know it has the “exact tone” you’re looking for? You apparently haven’t played it. There are similar instruments in the classifieds from well known makers at a similar price. Looking...

Nice, but maybe a lightly glued plug over the bolt would be a bit better, my taste anyway.

  18. Re: Do You Play ALL of Your Mandolins Regularly?

Chris Thile notwithstanding, my own experience is that many people believe things that have no basis in fact. But if they have an epiphany with their mandolin, more power to them.

He’s on Michael Cleveland records 2005-2010 or so, and played with the Gibson Brothers up until last year. Lots of good stuff there.

Re: Having trouble picking in public

Take a look on the DrBanjo website, search for ‘stage fright’. Very good article.

Keep pushing to play with others. Dare to suck, it gets easier the less you care about trying to sound good.
