Re: Old Kentucky A Style Info.

I suspect you're right, Mike. IIRC the Korean models had some kind of ornamentation on the headstock. Still, I owned some MIJ Kentuckys years ago, including some 200 series models, and none looked...

Re: Old Kentucky A Style Info.

My guess is it is a South Korean-made KM-250. I don't think they used the Korean shop very long, and I think they transitioned to China around 2001 or 2002. Don't confuse it with the new KM-250,...

    Re: oval vs F style...question

The OP says a $500 mandolin is a few years away, so the most realistic advice is to practice with what he has now and keep on the lookout for a killer deal. If anyone really knows where Flatiron...

    Re: David Lindley, RIP

Indeed. I always assumed he was some kind of wizard.
  6. Re: Anyone own an MDO605 or other options

There are three or four non-Eastman or Gold Tone options ~2500 in the classifieds right now. One is about $200 above your stated price. BTW, you might have better luck posting your query in the CBOM...
  7. Re: Kentucky KM-650 (2012) buzzy fret & truss rod/neck joint help

You are going to need to adjust the truss rod at some point. Why not just give it a little turn one way and then turn it back? Also, it sounds like the issues with the instruments in the other thread...
  8. Re: Can an instrument be too good that it stunts your growth?

As the owner of a Weber Fern, I can say, emphatically, no. I wish you were right, though. :))

Re: Purchasing a good beginner mandolin in Canada

Mike is a prince of a fellow and his mandolins are excellent. Congratulations on your new instrument. May it bring you years of enjoyment.

    Re: Eastman tailpiece

Then you would have no choice but to buy another mandolin, preferably a more expensive one.

Seriously, though, don't worry about it. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it's pretty unlikely....

Re: Eastman md 504 or Eastman km 272

You're buying it based on looks so get the one that looks better to you if price is not an issue. Any appreciable difference in sound will be due to the natural variability between instruments, not...

Re: What is that little instrument?

I went through airport security in Austin after SXSW years ago behind David Byrne, who, when the agent asked me what was in the case, opined that it's always the mandolin players who cause trouble.

    Re: Modern Oval Holes

Looks pretty, Charles, that's for sure. I own a Fern oval that haunted my dreams after I played it in the store, and I've liked every Weber oval I've played. I owned a Pomeroy many years ago and it...

I can't speak for the current iteration, but Weber made some fantastic ovals.

David, we call that "nasty little itch" mandolin acquisition syndrome. Be sure to let us know what you get and how it's going. Curious minds want to know.

Re: Ready to upgrade mandolin - need advice!

You're right about YouTube. My 14-year-old won't even watch a movie. (OTOH, she's read 40 books in the past six months.) Anyway, I'll take just any excuse to slip in a reference to The Princess Bride.
