  1. Re: Thile is the Messiah! The pick of Christ!!!

    That looks heavenly...

But I prefer a Buddha Blue Chip

Once I tried it, I was able to end my desires for all other worldly picks...

    Chris Henry Mandolin Lessons

If you’ve never seen Chris Henry’s downloadable mandolin lessons, they are really excellent. http://www.noyamountainmusic.com/downloads/

They are not particularly cheap @$20, and they are...
  3. Re: nice comparison of two NF Big Mons-englemann vs Red spruce to

The red spruce just had more power, depth and character. That’d be an easy decision for me.
Northfield sure is making some great mandolins!
  4. Re: Dumb and petty complaint (Doyle Lawson F-5 content)

A Doyle Lawson Gibson is a great mandolin, but itís not particularly valuable or historically significant like a Loar (and I agree, the DL Gibsons look kinda dated) ...so... why not make it what you...

    Re: Drunk at the party

    That was awesome!!!

Really had that Don Stiernberg sound... I think even he would be impressed!
  6. Re: MAS: Remember, it's stronger than you and there ain't no vacc

Enjoyed reading your post...I saw that Northfield and thought “what a great looking mandolin!”
I’m glad it went to a good home!

    Re: New Stiver Today!

I used to have a whole herd of mandolins, but I’ve sold them all- no matter what kind of music I’m playing, the Stiver sounds best.
I use mine for bluegrass primarily, but it sounds great for...
  9. Re: Matt Miller Picks - New to the Pick Market - Great pick/price

Hey, the tune is Wheel Hoss, and old Monroe standard. Hmmm... does the BC sound a little darker? The Miller is a little brighter? I like the Miller pick- I played it for probably 20 minutes and...
  10. Re: Matt Miller Picks - New to the Pick Market - Great pick/price

Got my Miller Pick today... it’s nice!

Not quite as grippy as a Blue Chip... but it’s not slippery. The Miller LG and a BlueChip TAD are virtually identical in terms of dimensions.

    The sound?...

Thanks- that was very cool of you to post that. There’s a few licks in there that I’m gonna learn tonight...
  12. Re: Matt Miller Picks - New to the Pick Market - Great pick/price

I havenít bought a new pick in probably 3 years- My Bluechip TAD 40 is the perfect pick as far as Iím concerned... Iíve never played a pick...

Re: New Stiver Mandolin in 5 weeks!

I’m sure you’ll be happy with it, and you won’t miss the Collings.

I’ve owned a lot of cool mandolins... Brentrup, Givens, Collings, Flatiron, Ellis, Silverangel... on and on.
    But as you can see...

    Re: Sierra Hull tour

Hmm.. tie between “Middle of the Woods” and “How Long”... I’m also really liking “Escape”, it’s so moody + ethereal.

There are a bunch of legitimately awesome songs.... can’t say that about too...

    Re: Sierra Hull tour

I just saw her on Saturday night in Pittsburgh ... it was nothing short of incredible.

The musicianship was just over the top...it’s a four piece band: Sierra on mandolin family instruments and...

Re: Is Baby Ben a traditional tune?

The John Pearse set got a few mentions in past threads.... I assume they are a solid choice for GDAE.

    Tenor String Set for GDAE

    Hi,
I have a Blueridge BR 40t that I want to string GDAE.... I know this question has been brought up before ( I looked up the old threads) but I would greatly appreciate some current advice on...

    Re: Northfield Recurve case failure

Fair enough, no argument... Just to clarify why this thread bothers me: In Pete’s case, it actually happened to him. In this case, we’re discussing an unsubstantiated report from social media- it...

    Re: Northfield Recurve case failure

Seems unfair to Northfield to post this without more information.

I see a picture with one broken latch. This wouldn’t cause a mandolin to fall out of a case; I’m sure we’ve all bumped a latch...
  24. Re: New Mandocello from Dammann Musical Instruments

Damn, man! Thatís a cool cello!!

Looks like it would be very versatile for a lot of situations...

I had a cello/octave and a tenor guitar that I eventually just strung in GDAE... Maybe thatís...
  25. Re: Flatiron Festival F versus a great Collings MT???

I’ve owned a Collings MT and MF... and a Nashville Flatiron Festival F

The Flatiron was a better overall mandolin, no question... it had the Gibson sound. It also had a strong G string and a...
