  2. Re: Getting better at Mandolin by Playing other Instruments

I've had the same experience in reverse.
Ever since I've taken to learning mandolin on a more serious level, mainly from one on one lessons with a pro, my guitar playing has gotten much more fluid...

    Re: D'addario strings (Consistent breakage)

Sorry to the OP if they are offended, was certainly not my intention.
Not doubting the OP at all, just have never had the same experience with D'addario E strings.
    I HAVE had another brand...

    Re: Hand Lotion and Strings

This ^^^ I use Burts Bees hand salve, as I get very dry skin. After a week, my strings are black with grime and dead. Been wiping them down, which helps. Doesn't bother me too much, I like dead...

Re: Blues, Stomps, & Rags #9

Great tune! Matthew Prater was an incredible mandolin player.

I play "Prater Blues" darn near every day.....one of my favorites to play.
Great phrasing and good tremolo practice!

Re: What are you playing the blues on?

Thanks everyone for responding so far. I'm using my 2017 Duff A5.

When I was learning country blues guitar and got heavily into it, I bought a 1923 Oscar Schmidt Sovereign. It definitely has...

What are you playing the blues on?

An interesting topic came up in my mandolin lesson recently. I'm taking lessons with Compton, and our emphasis has been the blues alá Papa Charlie McCoy, The Two Poor Boys, Prater & Hayes, etc....

    Re: Dammit!

I was just going to suggest super glue.

When we're on extended bouldering/climbing trips and we get flappers, (when the skin peels off a callus), we super glue the skin back down.
    There is...

Re: New Vessel Loar A5 tribute

Ummm...there was only one Loar A5...so yep.

Violin makers have been copying Strads and Guarneri's for hundreds of years...it's a tribute......you get it or you don't....unless a builder passes it...

  19. Re: MIM: Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix, AZ.

    It is AWESOME and huge!

At least 2 days to fully take it all in.

They had a very cool special exhibit that traced the history of the electric guitar when I was there.

Yes.....Paul is still as busy as ever.
The reason you don't see them listed is they sell as fast as they get them, so they never make the website.

    Re: Early 90's Gibson A5L

I got a Duff A and that was the game changer for me.

I would of been completely happy with the A5L, but the Duff is on a whole other level.

    Re: Early 90's Gibson A5L

I owned this one for a few years. It's a good one. Decent volume with a woody tone.
The pickguard and EVO frets were done by Steve at Cumberland Acoustics.
