    I think its been modified by a creative person. The pick guard is tasefully done and theres something about that tailpiece. I like it.

    1925 Gibson mandolin finish?

    What type of finish was Gibson using on mandolins in 1925? I thought I read somewhere they switched to lacquer at some point.

    The more I look at this I think the dowel is only used to mount the fingerboard extension.I believe the neck joint is simply a tenon. I will find out more once I get it apart.

    Yes I was suprised at the crudeness of construction. When I researched the early Salvador Ibanez guitars they are quiet sought after with the classical players, I was expecting finer craftmenship....
