Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

I suppose a person could pin the end but it seems that is probably unnecessary.

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

I have a cf bar. I think it was 3/8” tall and a bit narrower. I need to measure it because I am not positive. But my question is what size do you use? Do you mount it low in the neck or just under...

Re: Learning mandolin and music theory?

I started with the Ohmson book but honestly, it was deep for a newb. I had much better progress when I started using it as an encyclopedia along with tunes I was learning. I have made more progress...

What profile did the older larger necks have on Gibsons Mandolins? Rounder, or V? etc.

Re: Only change ONE string at a time!!

I take them all off sometimes and sometimes I don’t. I generally start with the lowest pair of I don’t and if I do I put them all on and snug but not tune, then sneak them all up to pitch. Since I...

Re: Dual action truss rod install

Out of curiosity did you go for a smaller diameter titanium rod in Mandolins when someone requests a truss rod?

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

I don't understand why it's a fight. Like everything, there will be those who swear by it, those who don't care, and those who don't like it. My guitars have them and I like them. I replaced a neck...

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

I need to double-check but I think Bill used a cf rod in my OldWave. I am inclined to do an oval f scaled mandolin with a neck I like, I like a nice v, and a cf rod. Obviously, all my guitars have...

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

Guess I got my answer. I was curious it seemed more of an fstyle thing and wondered if there was some reason they would be more prone to bowing than an old a oval or modern take on it. Thanks all no...

Re: Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

Well I don’t buy that my A has a fine setup even without a truss rod. Now should it ever need adjusting, and it hasn’t since I got it in ‘07, then a truss rod could come in handy. But Oval A’s built...

Neck reinforcement vs a truss rod

My OldWave A has a neck reinforcement but not a truss rod. Tension has not been released on this neck since I bought it other than to change strings. No neck issues. That begs a question in my mind....

You guys! I didn't even think to look at the date of the OP or the reply I replied to. If I had I may not have replied but it has generated some interesting commentary so, to me, well worth it.

    Re: More Neck Questions

I would pull the fretts and level it, if it didn't work I would ask here. I have a few ideas but I am not sure any would help over just replacing the neck. I, however, am no pro and would do all the...

    Re: Strumming like guitar?

I don't know if this qualifies as strumming like a guitar but I have found lately I will pick up my A, pick a four-finger chord then mute each note with my fingers. They don't ring out just thud a...

I saw those and will probably buy them come payday.
  23. Re: A style mandola from vertically flipped H model plan?

Sadly around me there are no instruments for me to measure or even see, middle of nowhere but peaceful. I was just going to oversized HOgo’s plans but it seems maybe that isn’t the way to go.
  24. Re: A style mandola from vertically flipped H model plan?

So who has the good plans for mandolin and or octave mandolin? Is it as simple as taking a
Good mandolin plan and up sizing it.
