    A Christmas song

    In the Bleak Midwinter

Instrumental version of a song with words by Christina Rossetti (1872) and musical setting by Gustav Holst (1906).

Two versions, the first in the key of C on guitars...

Re: Let's hear your BEST musical joke?

I suggest we consider all of the posts about the trombosawjobagcorditrithere band to be one massive metajoke (it was pretty amusing).

Now for some less complicated material.

    Re: Recommendations For Headphones?

I've used these for years. The plastic covering on the headpiece shreds after a while, though. Comes with a 1/4" adaptor.

Re: Best Resources for Chord Sheets?

Here's a couple of possibilities that give lyrics and chords (not necessarily laid out in musical measure form, though, just show which chords go with which words).

Used to see ads like that in the NYC papers all the time. Being as I was 10 years old and lived 75 miles away, I didn't get to many shows. :(

    Re: Old Grimes

According to the good folks at the Mudcat Cafe, there's a poem and a song about Old Grimes:

    OLD GRIMES.

Thanks for listening, bbcee. I was unfamiliar with this tune before the magazine showed up a couple weeks ago. I played through it once, and it immediately felt familiar, though I'd never heard it...

    Old Grimes

An autumnal-sounding fiddle tune, mellow as a punkin filled with apple butter. Mandolin and guitar.

Re: Where to play melody on fret board

I'm working on a fiddle tune where the B part is in a higher register. A high b (1st string, 7th fret) is a key melody note. I often get my little finger in the wrong place playing out of 1st...
  18. Re: Mandolin playing mindset vs guitar playing mindset

Oh, I didn't mean to say that I play only melody on one and only chords on the other, just that if I sit down with an instrument and play without thinking much, this is what comes out.

Re: The pulse of a tune

I like to play melodies with swing, as in a hornpipe, which I find hard to do at a faster tempo. But I think I usually hit beat 1 too hard (just trying to make the metronome proud of me, I guess).

  22. Re: URGENT: Found stolen Pegasus case - Goshen, IN

Goshen College has a nice concert hall, which often features acoustic music - we saw Rhiannon Giddens and Gillian Welch there. I don't think there were any concerts of that type in the past few...

Re: Is this how it starts?

A nice old mando that will get more respect than it's seen for a while, I'd guess. That case is one of the least sanitary bits of music equipment I've ever seen.
