    Re: Tonegards

That makes a good case for tonegards on pegheads, which seem to suffer a lot more damage on very expensive instruments. And the added mass probably enhances the sustain.

Re: String journey on a Collings MT

I've played the Labella 770M and 880L on my F5L, trying to copy David McLaughlin. My hands tended to kill the sound a little too quickly for me but I sure love his playing with those strings.

    Re: Off to Scotland

Fit as we are for retirees, it’s nice to know, but we probably won’t do that. There might be a pub in the way.

The Ruhland at Carter's should be on the list. They're pretty powerful instruments. NFI.

    Re: East Tennessee Blues

That’s a really cool album but takes a bit to find it. Those boys and a couple of tracks with George Barnes.

Re: Help With A Couple Chords

Sounds like Hotel California. Can’t quite tell what notes you’re playing in those 2 chords.

Also, mandolins typically are not played like little guitars, but rather as plucked violins, ie,...

    Re: Silverangel Econo A #446

Stiffer picks can be much louder, like a Red Bear. As for loud mandolins, Audey Ratliff builds loud mandolins, F and A. I have one of each, both CountryBoys. Plain but loud, great BG instruments.

If you're cutting the shell, use good ventilation and a proper dust mask. The dust can make you very sick. Been there, did that, when I was young and foolish. And there's a reason jewelers saw...

Re: A New Pick For Slick?

Cheap, sort of Blue Chip, are Radex. Come in 3 thicknesses, in the 346 shape. I have all the standards, Red Bear, Blue Chip, Wegen, V-Pick and Gibson but I mostly use the Radex now. Doesn't...

Re: The Sun Jumped Up This Morning

Well, he's playing it in E and its Woody Guthrie, so I suspect, and it sounds it too, that its I-V, I-IV, maybe not quite that order, with a vi (minor) in it. And it sure sounds like the Crawdad...
