    Re: Ibanez M522 top collapsing

I did try to get some pictures but it was difficult to photograph. What got my attention was one side of the "F" hole was lower than the other side of the same hole, by about the thickness of the...

    Re: Ibanez M522 top collapsing

Yes it would be. That is why I am doing it myself. I figure it is an excellent time for me to learn how to do this stuff. If I blow it, I am not out much.

    Re: Ibanez M522 top collapsing

We looked it over and decided the top was misshaped and needed a stiffener. See picture.

The brace has yet to be shaped and fitted but you can see the location.

    Re: Ibanez M522 top collapsing

I cut the back off of this mandolin and didn't see any cracks/breaks/failures. What I did see was the top was not fully shaped. The area around the neck is pretty flat. I would have expected more...

    Re: Piccolo (Soprano) Mandolins

I have not heard talk about the piccolo mandolin and didn't know they existed. I guess you could capo a standard mandolin at the fourth fret to simulate the sound. Interesting.

    Ibanez M522 top collapsing

My Ibanez M522 top has started to collapse (bow) at the upper part (towards the fret board)of the F hole. I have borescoped the body and do not see any reason for this. The sound bars are still...

No idea why the pictures are 90 degrees off. I did incorporate the changes discussed. Added the humbucker pickup and changed to 500 ohm pots....

Re: Classical Guitar to Tenor conversion questions

The conversion is more difficult than it sounds. First the scale length of the classic is probably 25 inches. The tenor likes 20-23 inches. The neck is probably glued onto the body of classic. You...

    Re: buzzing after string change

I am no expert but I had a buzzy string on my mandolin and replaced it. No more buzz. Something wrong with the string. I could isolate the buzz to a single string.

Re: Six to eight string conversion

Thanks fox. Here is a synopsis I posted on another site.

I have been struggling with this paint thing. But I have learned a lot.

    1. Do not use Rustoleum, it never cures
    2.Use Krylon it cures...

    Six to eight string conversion

I am finally getting this guitar together. It started life as a Mitchell Mini guitar , 22.5 inch scale. Trimmed about 1/4 inch off both sides of the neck and I added two strings and tuned it GDAE....

    Re: Bridge Pin Reamer

Things just got weird. I pulled one of the pins from the Ibanez to measure and found the pins are 5mm top to bottom. No taper. What the heck is going on?

    Re: Bridge Pin Reamer

I was hoping there was an industry standard. Looking through the page you quoted, they seems to be fitted per instrument. I will have to dig out my old trig book.

    Thanks

    Bridge Pin Reamer

I am going to convert my Ibanez PFT2 tenor guitar to an octave mandolin. So I need to add 4 more strings. Seems the bridge pins are either 3 or 5 degrees. It is pretty difficult to measure accurately...

You kinda can see the size difference. Note the distance from the bridge to the foot of the guitar.

  23. Re: ES Arch Top Guitar Octave Mandolin conversion

That is a great looking instrument. I will be looking at the fret board hat comes in the kit. I am not a guitarist and the shorter fret spacing is a feature I like on the tenor guitar and mandolin.

  25. Re: ES Arch Top Guitar Octave Mandolin conversion

I have built 22.5" electric tenor guitars tuned GDAE with good results. Perhaps the acoustic needs the shorter scale. I think I will shoot for the 20" scale by modifying/replacing the neck I am not...
