    Re: String comparison forthcoming...

I did not like the sound of the Martin to my ears, the D’Addario sounded good initially but didn’t last long ! The CM Monels sounded great from the beginning and last a LONG time of playing !

    Re: String comparison forthcoming...

Tried the D’Addario and Martin Monels on my Girouard ovals and didn’t like the sound . I love the sound of the Curt Mangan Monels however ! On my F Ellis mandolins I still prefer GHS A 270’s

I have 50 percent A and 50 percent F mandolins and play them all equally ! I agree with you on a toneguard but I still prefer a F !

In that case a Girouard or Ellis ! Both great sounding instruments !
  17. Re: If money was no object, and perfect bluegrass tone was only g

I missed the part where $5000. tops was his budget. In that case I would go for the Girouard ! My Ellis A5 was well under $5000. when I bought it.

Girouard and Ellis and pocket the rest !

I have the one hundred bucks per month but her potential teaching ability could not override my playing short comings ! Not at my age anyway !
