    Re: Jeff Austin Health Fund

He has 3 young kids, which is more heartbreaking than my personal sadness at losing a musician who gave me joy.

Enjoyed the heck of his solo band's show last year at Blue Ox and the brilliant...

    Re: K&K for mandolin

It is worth checking to see if your mandolin already has a proper sized hole. My US made Breedlove like all of theirs was drilled for one at the factory.

I believe Collings already have proper...

    Re: Mandolin Stand Recommendations

Works really well, I appreciate how it folds up small to fit in my gear bag. Tempted to buy a second for my electric.

Re: Man....I had a blue guitar...

I saw a gold top Eastman and was suprirsed at how much I disliked it. How bad does the wood have to look for you to want to 100% obscure it?

I saw a blue mandolin and said `that sure isn't for me,...

Re: Man....I had a blue guitar...

There's a used Weber River at a local shop [nfi].

The back is gorgeous in person, I think the main front shot they have does...
  8. Re: Effects for use on acoustic amp or PA with K and K pickup

    Love mine.

While some of the online practice tools and youtube have started to take more of my time, I have found a looper [and metronome] to be essential for practice.

    As I also play guitar...

Re: Wearing a watch and RH anchor

My guitar has a fairly wide neck, I have to remove my wedding ring to play without it clinking against the edge of the neck.

Heck, I have started to try to mostly empty my pockets before gigs -...

For those who used the older StroboClip ... is the HD one any significant improvement or just a better form factor/display/etc?

    Re: Strap button on neck?

I have a button on my mandolin in a similar spot, I have been surprised at how little it bothers me when playing. YMMV.

I find that it really secures my mandolin in a good position for playing...
  15. Re: Slight frustration when changing mandolin strings

Daryl, good idea about the paper/cardboard.
  16. Re: Slight frustration when changing mandolin strings

I use two tools which IMO help massively with string changes:

A Capo [once string is on tailpiece hook and going over bridge correctly, I secure it to the neck with a capo before moving to the...

Re: Mandolin sound changing over time

I find it interesting that no one disputes when someone says `I can hear that the strings I put on two months ago are dead' but if they say `my mandolin sounds better a month after I got it' no one...

    Re: So...I'm stuck....dang MAS...

    Couldn't agree more.

IMO, there's a fairly profound difference between a $500 and $1000+ [esp $2k+] mandolin. I have found great pleasure in a single really nice instrument that makes me excited...

Re: Externally vs Internally mounted Piezo?

I understood the JJB's were essentially copies of the K+K - seems like they're quite similar piezos, but I'm no piezo expert.

    Re: Used beginner mandos

Once you add in shipping costs, paypal, [if sold here] a donation to MC, and time ... selling an instrument at $200 doesn't net that much. Keeping a beater for canoe/camp/beach trips is worth that...

    Re: Mandolins at rest

I just received two mandolins via shipping last month. Both had been detuned to ship - one just a half step and the other a couple.

Neither sounded that great the day I tuned them up, it seemed to...

  25. Re: Any one have opinions on the best amp for use with a Bagg Rad

FYI - he does state he is using a Ten2 amp which without hearing I can guess outclasses the Fishman or Roland products - more in the AER and such level of professional-level amps.

    I was going to...
