Re: Advice on a Good Beginner Mandolin

I recently got a Loar LM-110 for my daughter and was pleasantly surprised. Sounds great and plays great. Well worth the money. It was 250 USD new.

Re: Am I being to Critical on New Mandolin

The cost of the instrument would be the deciding factor for me. At a certain price point you better believe fit and finish matters. On something cheap it wouldn't matter so long as the instrument...
  3. Re: Learn to play multiple instruments at once?

I'd say you should get one under your fingers pretty good before picking up another. I had been playing guitar for 15 years before I picked up a mandolin so switching back and forth wasn't a big...

    Re: Red Henry Maple Bridge

My days of putting money into low end instruments for very little to no gains are over. I try to focus on my playing as much as possible to get all I can out of the instrument. Also, a really good...

Re: How much do you practice?

I don't really practice much as just play. I have a guitar or mandolin in my hands most of the time when I'm at my desk.
  7. Re: Time Sensitive: Your opinions needed ASAP

I've taken mandolins and guitars all over the world on planes and never had an issue. I'm an expert at sneaking them onto planes. lol

    Re: Shipping in 2020

I shipped a strat from Texas to Oregon a couple weeks ago via UPS ground. I insured it for 500 bucks and the total shipping cost was 95 bucks. Shipping is expensive these days..

    Re: Missing the bluegrass sound

Keep that right hand moving and chopping. It's about more than memorizing solos and fiddle tunes.

    Re: Strap Recommendation

I braided mine out of 550 cord about 20 years ago and it's still going strong.

    Re: Repair question

I don't really know. I put it up when I got something nicer and didn't look at it for years. I don't think it was under humidified. Prob an impact of some sort.

    Re: Repair question

It's def a crack in the wood. I don't know if I want to spend the money to repair it. It was my first mandolin. I would repair it for sentimental reasons more than anything. I played it a long...

Is this something that can be repaired? I don't know what kind of neck joint it is. It's an MK that I purchased new in 04. Thanks!
