    Re: Bowlbacks of Note

I've had my eye on this Rafaele Tieri for a long time on Lowell Levenger's site. I've always been reluctant to purchase it because it has some cracked ribs. However after playing it during an...

Re: Where to buy a case for a bowl back?

Thanks again Mike, I'll check them out. I'm determined to find something good, it deserves it. It's a ca 1920s Rafaele Tieri made in NYC. I should probably post something in Bowl Backs of Note.

Re: Where to buy a case for a bowl back?

My instrument is 9" in width, which is unusual. The cases listed on Eldery are 8". I may go the route of a modifying a bouzouki gig bag. Are there any custom case builders our there?

Where to buy a case for a bowl back?

I recently bought a wonderful old bowl back mandolin that needs a case. The body is a bit bigger than other bowl backs I've compared it to. I haven't been able to find a case that fits yet. Are there...

Could someone speak about the high quality European and Japanese bowlbacks and where to buy them? August, is the "Italy" link you provided a reputable source?

Re: Best Way to Clean and Old Mandolin

Well, I used a slightly damp cloth and it got rid of the crud, but now it the finish has a cloudy look. So be careful, a damp cloth may work on some finishes but not all. Perhaps try a small patch...

Best Way to Clean and Old Mandolin

I searched for previous threads on this topic but couldn't find any.

I have a Nugget F5 with a varnish finish built in 1987 owned by at least a couple of other people before me. There's always...

I don’t know if it’s still available anywhere, but he did an album when he was a teenager with Alan Munde on banjo called Poor Richard’s Almanac. The quality is funky but his picking (even back then)...

    Re: Vintage Gibson oval hole

I imagine the appreciation of the value has cancelled out the difference between what you bought it for then vs. what it’s worth now 20 years later. If I’m making any sense.

    Re: Vintage Gibson oval hole

My '24 A2Z has enough volume and cutting power to play in a bluegrass band situation. But it's difficult to make a chop chord up in the B position.

David, growing up in New Orleans did you ever hear the 6 & 7/8 String Band or similar string jazz music that featured mandolin? They were a big influence on me.
