Which bit of the Fens Gary? We're not far off Aylsham
  2. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

In Honor of Mr Bill Monroe's 73987 (celebrating it's 96th birthday today!), I think this is an image worth sharing.

Re: 10 Questions for Dan Beimborn

Hello Rush- I'd still go 1922 (ship date) for 70050. The FON looks like you could be right in the middle of Ajrs with similar serials.. here's a sampling (note lots of incomplete data!)

    Re: A little F-4 information

13100 is also interesting for using the earlier scroll carving style (C-shape instead of S)

There are a few more scattered that come after 11694 too.. some quite interesting ones to see in there!

    Re: Gibson?

    Good advice right here.

The truss rod and adjustible saddles both let you fine-tune the set-up a bit more. I make little adjustments to mine when I travel, seasonal changes etc.

I'd say go scoop up unless there is serious damage not shown in pictures. That's like 40% below what they normally go for

Re: 1909 Gibson F2. Worth it?

The price is high compared to market that I've seen.. these can change hands around $3k-3500. Crack under scroll very common on these. The back appears to be maple or unusually figured birch. In my...

  15. Re: Gibson Inc. Gibson Brings Out New Tenor-Lute, 1924

It almost seems like they've confused the Gibson mandola-body instrument with a Paramount Tenor Harp (which is *really* a wooden top tenor banjo!)

  20. Re: Would appreciate help identifying Gibson Mandolin

I would remove "black" from that list, but you definitely have an A2-z!

Top binding is common to all but the Ajr
an inlaid "The Gibson" shows up on A1, A2, A2z, A4
    Back binding is either a2,...
  21. Re: Would appreciate help identifying Gibson Mandolin

So A-model mandolins from 1922-1925 can be quite quirky about which catalog specs they match. A2-z was described on page 19 of Catalog "N" (image attached). This mandolin passes all the tests for an...
