    Re: ebay h1 mandola

Should you be wondering, the seller says there is no case.
  2. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

yeah, slotting of that bridge is just weird. Is that an original bridge?

    Re: Gibson EM 150?

My case is black ó but it is a redline case; could it be original?

The first CC EM150 I owned did in fact have one of those tweed cases.
  5. Re: Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

I would definitely want to put a cloud tailpiece on there, just for aesthetics.

    Re: Gibson EM 150?

I've got lots of photos of its twin sister here, a '37. I believe mine has a factory order number stamped inside, and I think it has the original control knobs but not the original bridge. ...

    Re: ebay h1 mandola

Fair enough, here are some photos of a '23 H1 from Charles Johnson that show the same saddle width and spacing:

  8. Vega cylinderback with no logo ... made for the trade?

I don't think I've seen an unbranded Vega cylinderback before. Is that what we have here?

    Re: Thile can't chop chords

Good example of that here ... just mute the strings with your fingertips rather than pressing them all the way down to the fretboard, and you get that dry chop sound. A mandolin can be used to play...

    Roberts 5-string electric on CL

I don't see these as often as I used to. I think the $3500 being asked is pretty close to market price these days.

    Re: ebay h1 mandola

I'm not aware of any significant distinction between a '23 and a '24 H1, so I'll just let that slide. We did discuss the finish crazing a bit; the way it is crazed is what leads to the suspicion that...

Re: The best mandolins for your money...

Well, I also posted it to the Facebook Mandolin Group, which is fun but far inferior to the Cafe. I had second thoughts about posting it here but did not heed them. Perhaps I'll wise up next time.

    Re: ebay h1 mandola

Wow, the seller actually heeded advice from me and other mando-gadflies, corrected some things about the listing and lowered the price. If I had a nickel for every time that's happened, I still...

    Re: ebay h1 mandola

Yes, the saddle looks too narrow. Possibly a mandolin bridge on a mandola body? The bridge is very worn; it must have been on there for a long time.

    Re: ebay h1 mandola

Which, I suppose, raises the question of how they get bent without breaking.
  18. Re: Mando wall hanger at Paulís Coffee and Tea in CO

They do seem to serve food that most banjo players would recognize, with the possible exception of the French toast.
  19. Re: Mando wall hanger at Paulís Coffee and Tea in CO

Better a distressed mandolin than a distressed barista.

As for naming places after mandolins, look on the bright side: How many Banjo Cafes or Accordion Wines have you heard of?

    ebay h1 mandola

This 1923 mandola doesn't have a fleur de lis, so i am sure it's an H1, not an H2. The number on the label looks like an old-school 1 that could easily be misread.

Pretty sure at least the tuners...

    Anderson (?) 5-string

The only clue to the identity of this seems to be the name "Anderson" under the electronics plate.

Seems to be carved from a single block of mahogany, which is cool, but it's been kicked around...

    Re: Who hath known Hathaway?

It's definitely not Paul Hathway. The CL seller suggested that the luthier was from Michigan and had worked at Gibson.

Better photos would answer some of Steve's questions.
