Re: The world's most precious gig bag?

Re: The world's most precious gig bag?

I put it on my watchlist just to track if anyone is stupid enough to buy it

    Re: Kentucky Mandolin km 250s???

I have a KM250 that I bought new on the classifieds here for $395. I am quite happy with it. $200 seems quite reasonable. Prices on new ones have gone up quite a bit recently (perhaps due to trade...

  5. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Agree. "We used to innovate" is not a winning sales campaign
  6. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Understand your point, but I dont think Gibson winning in court is going to be a financial windfall for them and "enjoy the fruits of their labors". I think most buyers are making purchase decisions...
  7. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I stand corrected. I am a Hole fan but that has no bearing on my interest in mandolin
  8. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I have to imagine this is the first time Courtney Love's name has come up on Mandolin Cafe!

    Re: eBay sales tax

Agree. I dont want to pay more but not collecting sales tax for out of state purchases puts brick and mortar stores at a disadvantage.
  10. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Is this suggesting that Gibson will take action against dealer's that sell the other offending guitars? Why would any dealer call Gibson to report themselves?

    Re: Go To Jams Now!

I did one of the Pete Wernick Jam classes earlier this year and found it to be a really safe way to get started. Despite being only 4 months in to playing mando I was able to hang in there and have...
  12. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I have a 70's Ibanez Les Paul copy guitar. I guess I should be expecting Gibson hooligans to be kicking down my front door?

Re: 3 hours of practice a day?

I dont think I could practice that much even if I had the time. Enjoyment would soon turn into drudgery and I think I would end up hating the instrument. Some good advice I got here was the break...

Re: Am I asking too much?

If there were a deserving young musician that needed it, I would do that. However, there is no way to determine if the inquiries are from one of those or just an opportunist

Re: Am I asking too much?

When I bought the Ibanez I thought it sounded pretty good. But, after comparing it to the Bovier and a Kentucky KM250 I bought here on the classifieds, it falls pretty short. For a while I kept it...

    Am I asking too much?

I bought an Ibanez M510BS mandolin on Amazon in October. It got me into the instrument and I quickly wanted something better, so I bought a J Bovier off of Reverb in December. The Ibanez has been...

    Re: Music Streaming service question...

I really like the instrumentalist bluegrass channel on Pandora. For all types of music, the learning functions works well (figure out songs to play based on your preferences and listening history)

Re: Should I take my Eastman MD305 on vacation?

Re: Should I take my Eastman MD305 on vacation?

Before I did this I would make sure your wife was OK with it. If I brought a mandolin on a family vacation, I'd be in divorce court. That said, I sometimes bring my mandolin on business trips and I...

Re: practice advice: speed vs repetoire

Jim, I took a Pete Wernick jam class this past winter and that was very helpful. Now that summer is here (sort off) I have a lot less time. I probably wont get back to playing jams until the fall...

    practice advice: speed vs repetoire

I've been playing about 7 months now and have made a lot of progress. I have been working through Bert Casey's book. For each song, there is a backing track that plays the tune at 5 speeds from 50...
  25. Re: Man crosses the Atlantic in a barrel - with mando

It's really not that big of an accomplishment. Now if he were able to make it for 127 days stuck with a banjo, that would be incredible
