    Re: Need some advice.

Itīs all about how the music is put together. So a mandolin might fit in a rock band. But if the musicians do not know what they are doing even an all bluegrass cast suck at playing "Will The Circle...
  2. Re: 1976 Gehrardt Green F5 Pictures

For whatever reason the other thread got closed. I think that the mandolin and its builder deserves recognition. So hereīs my amended post from the other thread.

The mandolin was built in a period...
  3. Re: Check out this mandolin...... Thoughts, comments, concerns

Maybe someone can lift the pictures from reverb and post them here (I seem to be to lazy or dumb to do it).

I find it interesting that very little is being said about the mandolin. I donīt know...
  4. Re: Gibson destroys hundreds of Firebird X's

Actually itīs not a "Gibson"-bashing thread. Itīs a thread about the questionable destruction of salvagable (reusable) materials.
  5. Re: Gibson destroys hundreds of Firebird X's

That makes it even more painful (and I donīt want to go political, even though we understand each other).
  6. Re: Played a Loar F5 for the first time and met Mike Compton

You probably received an ear adjustment. After Playing a Lloyd Loar F-5 gor the first time my perception was never the same anymore.
  7. Re: Gibson destroys hundreds of Firebird X's

No need to be a tree hugger. But I donīt understand, why they donīt salvage the raw materials (to heat the office, to sell the copper wire etc.). Where do they go from there? The video borders on...
  8. Re: Back in Southern Germany. Any pickers in the Ulm area?

    Manfred,

die Illertal Cowboys sollten nicht unerwähnt bleiben: http://www.illertal-cowboys.de/ic-termine.htm "Big" Herbert Schildhammer informiert neben "Pee Wee" Wroblewski...
  9. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

    No, you donīt.

@ Mike Edgerton: You have to remove the black from the writing. Itīs not the old "Gibson" that you must punish. (as I am very [!] much in favor of my Southerner Jumbo)

    I think...

    Re: Vivitone Mandolin Registry

Play it im memory of your wife.

May your path be as beautiful as the sound that may come from the instrument that you have received.
  12. Re: Recommend some beginner Blues / Jazz Blues Lead Sheets

Absolutely! Know your chords, know your melody.

And while youīre at it find some room to be educated by Carol Keye:

  13. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

I hate to point out something, but here it goes:

The GIBSON vs. DEAN case is old news. Gibson tried to hassle Dean and finally lost the case in 2018.

That does not mean that itīs not worth...
  14. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Let me ad one thing. I have learned a lot from Gibson‘s true ambassadors on this forum. Foremost they are Big Joe, Charlie Derrington and Dave Harvey.

Big Joe was allways the consumate gentleman,...
  15. Re: South Petherton Mandolin Workshop, England

South Petherton brings back fond fuzzy memories from half a lifetime ago, when Sommerset was cider, sunshine, cream teas and mint Sauce. Whoeveer goes there, have a wonderfull time and pick one for...
  16. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

    I CANīT RESIST!

The master of blah blah, Marc Agnesi... (if you watch his videos as an employer of Normanīs Rare Guitars).

Though it might seem like venting: I donīt think that people like him...
  17. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

    More geekery...

We know that BM used an F-4 for the Big Mon, Monroeīs Hornpipe recordings in ... 1958 (did I get the date right?).

Is there any "eye witness testimony" what BM used in the...
  18. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

Now thatīs a fun geek fact.

So we may assume that this is the fabled repair entry that caused the longtime estrangement between BM and Gibson.

As I remember it from my Bluegrass history...
  19. Re: Lengthy article on bluegrass in the Guardian (UK)

    1) Itīs a book review by the author.

    2) The article gives a more in depth historical rundown than most other articles.

    3) It speaks of the deep love for bluegrass music (as the author defines...

Re: Hester tribute loar a5 pair

The Adi Hester A-5 clip is new to me. Whoīs the picker (nicely played)? The Alan Bibey clip is also nice. Thirty-something instruments in more than 10 years is not much. If you think about HoGo...

Re: Hester tribute loar a5 pair

Nice thread from over 10 years ago.

Still no soundfiles anywhere. Iīm still interested. Whatīs the going rate for a Hester A-5 these days?

    Re: 1996 Gilchrist price list

There are people that like wheeling and dealing so much that they would rather invest and reinvest than sit on the front porch causing sympathetic air vibrations with a wooden box that has metal...

    Re: Tony Rice Article

I know how difficult it is to write an article. Take a concert for example. These fleeting moments of music are long gone when you write about them. So you rely on your memory and possibly notes that...

    Re: Tony Rice Article

    David,

having read the "article", let me adress some points.

I am as much a Tony Rice fan as the next man, so I have no issues with the article as such. But I am concerned about mixing fact...

    Re: John Starling

I was very saddened to read about John Starlingīs expected passing. His vocals on "Raised By The Railroad Line" (Act 1) blew me away when I heard them half a lifetime ago just as they blow me away...
