Re: Best Android Tablet >10" for Sheet Music

I share my pdf files via DropBox from my Windows laptop to my Apple I-pad. (Adobe Acrobat makes it easier to see the music.)

I suppose the I-Cloud drive would work too, with the right passwords...

    Re: Octave and Mandola

Very nice. I think it is hard to keep the tempo going with the Octave Mandolin so that it does not 'lag' and 'lose interest' for the audience. This worked for the most part. The harmonics were a bit...

    Re: Attic Find

The neck wear shows 5 worn spots. So it had been played that way (leaving two tuner gears empty) for some time.

Re: Post a pic of your cat sleeping in your case

My avatar shows a former kitty who I enjoy seeing when I go to Mandolin cafe.

Nowadays, I have two cats. One, the big boy, is so big I had to buy a Collings mandola. Ha, ha.

    The other is my...
  8. Re: Guitar (not mando) Advice for what to do with it

We don't know what the sister wanted. Support for sure but why, if Lynn already had a guitar, would she buy another?
  9. Re: Mike Compton+Norman Blake Live performance video Gallop t Geo

The video's source may have blocked the 'sharing' of the video.
But you can go to youtube and see it there.

    Re: Disappointment = MAS Cure

Guitar Center? 20 years ago they had guitars. Now, only guitar shaped objects. Some of them say Guild or Gibson or what ever. One might buy an amp or electronic gear there but a real instrument?...

Re: Playing Mandola - Tips & Tricks

It's not an illness, ha, ha. It is a point of reference. Do you know the joke about mandolin /violin soloists? They seem to have a big head in relation to their instrument.

Re: Playing Mandola - Tips & Tricks

In classical music the viola does the harmonies and often the rhythms with the cellos. And in singing, the alto has the supportive middle voice. This has been developed over a few hundred years. So I...

New headphone cushions for the Grado's. From New Zealand no less. Can't wait to discover the amount of import taxes.

  15. Re: Nordic/Finnish/Swedish folk music recommendation

Traditional music is in good hands if this band is any indication. The only difference is that this generation removes their shoes!
  16. Re: Nordic/Finnish/Swedish folk music recommendation

Here is another of my favorite Swedish music videos. Gabi and Jamie really know their 'give and take' in ensemble arrangements.

Actually I started on fiddle, playing Scandinavian music at the...

    Re: Your MAS Progression

This seems like some consumer confessional group. And it seems that we could have a great 'swap fest'. (I'll make the egg nog. ha, ha).

In my situation the guitar was most problematic. I sold my...
  18. Re: Nordic/Finnish/Swedish folk music recommendation

Thanks Dagger for that fine gift of music. Vassen is just amazing.

Here is another tune from a less well known band and it shows how a mandolin fits into the mix.

Re: Eastman MDA815 mandola is here...

Please clarify an issue for me. I thought an 800 series was 'better quality' than other model numbers of lower figures e.g. 400 and 300.
From my very limited experience with Eastman instruments the...

Re: Thijs van der Harst Octave Mandolin

Yes, sir. Your comments make a lot of sense.

The sound of stringed instruments have such depth and character. For example that extra D on the Sobell 10-string really adds power to the chord.

Re: Thijs van der Harst Octave Mandolin

Bob has such a nice collection of instruments. I would hope he would 'showcase' each one in a video.

And Olga. I knew I'd seen that OM somewhere. (Mandolin Mondays).
