  2. Re: Add pick-up and strap to old Gibson C-1

There's no end pin on that mandolin. It can be attached to the slot on the Waverly tailpiece.

    Re: montgomery ward 1930 s

That's not a 1930's instrument, it's earlier. Is it marked?
  5. Re: How Many Loar Era A style mandolins were made of each kind?

I don't recall ever seeing any records of the production of A's in that period or any other period for that matter. Joe Spann's book has lists of Factory Order Numbers that you could look through for...

    Re: Eastman tuners

This has been discussed a few times in the past. You might want to thumb through this thread. There is someone on that thread that made the swap to Grover's.
  7. Re: Add pick-up and strap to old Gibson C-1

Look at this thread regarding the strap. You don't have to modify anything to add a strap unless you want to. I made both of those straps with rudimentary tools. You could just also use a leather...

    Re: Gibson Year Date

There are serious issues (binding rot comes to mind) that can affect those instruments. You really need pictures if your serious about a price.

Re: Any Baritone guitar players here?

Steve, did you get an ABT610e or an ABT60e? I've been looking at these things but the website says the ABT60e is out of stock until December.
  13. Re: Gibson 5-string mandolin oddity on eBay

The South Jersey pickguard shape would make it an early body as well, although it looks like that was replaced and possibly enhanced. There's no way that it left the factory the first time looking...

    Re: Banjolin Identification and Help

The metal ring that caps the resonator on this is the same as my Supertone tenor banjo. Supertone was a Sears brand but Sears didn't manufacture anything. What you have is one of thousands of banjos...
  15. Re: Gibson 5-string mandolin oddity on eBay

Wow. There were American makers that made some odd bodied 5 string instruments but not Gibson as far as I know. Somebody went to a whole lot of trouble on that one.
  16. Re: Weber factory tuner I.D. wanted / Adjustment question

I'd be looking to make sure the string wasn't binding in the nut slot before I'd start messing with the tuners.

    Re: Naming your Mandolin

At a jam a few months ago a guy had a small amp with a woman's name on it. I asked what was up with the name and he said "It's my wife's name. She's loud and so is this amp".

    I don't name...

    Re: Strad-O-Lin Catalog Pages

It appears to be. My tailpiece cover is a Waverly Cloud covered in the same material as the pickguard and held by two delicate rivets.
  20. Re: Classified search question - mandolin tuners

Waverly tuners come up rarely and generally sell very fast. Generally you have to bump into them soon after they are posted.

I would think that the posting guidelines would still apply. You could send Scott Tichenor a PM and inquire.

    Re: Chris Thile's first mandolin

Actually that date is applied as the creation date on saved files in certain applications on a Mac when the clock isn't set correctly. I'm sure that's what this was. I had to Google it.

    Leave it...

    Re: Chris Thile's first mandolin

If that was it it wasn't made by Kay but they were imported with the Kay name on them along with dozens of other names.
