    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

Tom, I’m referring to the one I have which was in the first batch to come out of Austin. But if anyone is expecting the same neck as you’d find on an MT, they are going to be disappointed.

    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

The neck is not a Collings neck. The neck is much larger and rounder, like an old Kalamazoo.

Re: Portland, Maine Old Time Jam

Check with the folks at the North Conway Music Center. They may have a jam there. Tamworth Lyceum (in Tamworth) used to have something on Sundays. Shaina Aisenberg also had a string band that used...

Re: High Quality Short Scale Tenor Guitar?

I have a Girouard tenor, which is tuned GDAE. Sounds great in that tuning. I also have a Collings tenor tuned CGDA. The Collings is a longer scale, but I have found that you need to play around...
  7. Re: Lehigh Valley, PA - Jams and Clubs for the BG, OT etc newcome

Brad, Bethlehem is the home of Godfrey Daniels, which is a very well known folk club. It's also a college town, so there have to be jams in that area. They do offer some jam opportunities

  8. Re: Can Anyone Shed Light on this Fiddle Embellishment?

I went to a workshop given by Jenna Moynihan this past Saturday and she referred to these types of ornaments as an “interruption”. I’ve heard Kevin Burke say this also, but he was referring to rolls....

    Re: Jet City Guitars

Good guy. Been around quite a while. I notice he has been selling instruments for Eli West. I think that’s his Blazer & Henkes guitar in the classifieds.

    Re: Brentrup Mandolins

There are so many great instruments out there, and more being made. What we believed was the end all and be all ten years ago, even five years ago continues to be refined and new building techniques...

Let the kids learn how to take care of great instruments. Maybe it will encourage some phenoms to the music program.

If you are interested in the TME one, call and ask for Jordan. He will give you an honest assessment.

  18. Re: Campanella two-point (How to make an accent on due?)

Not that I’ve tried. Are you looking for something that’s easier on your hands? I have noticed that the neck on Due is a little larger than on some of my other mandolins. How about trying monel...
  19. Re: Campanella two-point (How to make an accent on due?)

I have a Due. I put D’Addario NB strings on it. But mine has a European top and is x-braced. You might try a 11.5 as an E. Don’t go down in gauge. As Bill says, it won’t improve the sound. You...

    Re: Brentrup Mandolins

I played the TME one. Bit too dry for me. Played a new Girouard G5 next to it, and at 60% of the price it just overpowered it.

You can’t go by what’s listed on sites either, because lots of...
  22. Re: Curt Mangan Monel medium string price increase?

String selection depends a lot on the individual instrument. The monels don’t sound great on every mandolin, but sound great on enough of mine that I keep a supply around. They do last a long time...
  23. Re: Mandolin players who bought or have played a Waterloo Mandoli
