    Re: Sliding Door Side Port, Makers?

    I know Breedlove makes ported guitars that come with a rubber plug to fill it in when not wanted. And there's a fellow here who has drilled a cluster of 1-to-2-inch holes in the upper bout of his...
  2. Re: Sirius Radio Replaced Bluegrass station 62 with 24/7 Dolly Pa

    Sirius bought Pandora? That explains why my Pandora is getting dumber and dumber.

    Re: Natural talent vs practice

    Another factor: people who become world-class musicians (or athletes or anything) LOVE to practice. There is a drive to excel that keeps them willingly doing things that normal people hate for...
  4. Re: What's the weirdest MUSICAL thing you've ever done?

    I don't know if this really counts, but in college I was involved as a singer and guitarist in all of these projects at the same time:

    * pop-punk band
    * jazz octect
    * madrigal choir
    * church...

    Re: What's taking you so long in there?

    My father, growing up a military brat in the 60s, was about as straight-arrow a teenager as you could imagine.

    The story goes that he and his girlfriend are cooking dinner at her parents' house,...
  6. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

    I really love the music but I have such a hard time with Chris Thile. I've tried time and again but he's such a smug little showoff.

    Re: Marty Stuart Mandolin Solo

    Marty Stuart's the one who got me in to mandolin. I've seen him do this version live and it's even more incredible.

  10. Re: looking to move, but I have no clue where ?.

    I mean, you've basically described the majority of towns and suburb in the US.

    You need to figure out what you want from your home, not just what you don't want.

    For example, I've lived in and...

    Re: Multi-track Recording?

    I used a Scarlett Solo interface and recorded straight to Reaper on my computer for a while. The problem was that, by the time I'd got the computer on and ignored all the notifications and plugged in...

    Re: Multi-track Recording?

    The Zoom R8 (under $200 used) is much more capable than the Tascam. It can record two tracks of 1/4" or XLR in, or you can use the (surprisingly decent) dual built-in condenser mics. It can operate...
  13. Re: If you have Scroll Envy and $299.00 this has your name on it

    I think that's the normal price at Guitar Center, etc.

    Re: We're not so weird...

    I had a coworker back in the mid-aughts who would get paid to display her My Little Pony collection at MLP conventions. I had no idea this was even a thing. She had a medium-sized storage unit full...
  15. Re: Another Question for the Theory Geeks (no mandolin content)

    I don't know why you cats are going on about 2s and 4s. It's clearly ONE-2-and-a-3-and-a-FOUR-5-and-a-6-and-a. 6/8 with triplets.

    Re: V-picks

    Your violin bow also doesn't disappear if you drop it, or leave it on your amp, or it got snagged when you pulled out your keys, or you accidentally sent it through the wash, or....

    Re: V-picks

    I also found V-picks very chirpy and also extremely slippery. I guess they're supposed to become grippier as they get warm but I never experienced that.

    I'm currently using Primetones but I also...

    Re: Separation of Singing and Playing

    I'm finding that just having the binder there can help. I don't even need to look at it. I've wondered whether I would get the same effect by putting the binder in a bag at the back of the stage....
  20. Re: What is "Crosspicking"? Fun with definitions...

    Haha, yes. I have really struggled to get the cross-picking sound on the guitar because I spent so much time evening out my up-and-down strokes when I was playing jazz.
