Re: This Repurposing Thing Has Gone Too Far

About 50 years ago I saw a kinda cowboy group playing at a trade group luncheon in Wichita KS. One guy was playing a tenor banjo with different colored Christmas tree lights inside that blinked on...
  2. Re: General question about an Ebay transaction

It is certainly worth contacting the seller and asking him to follow up. As a sometimes seller I would appreciate a polite inquiry on something like this.
  3. Re: Article: The Mandolin Store Moving to Tennessee

Man, I'm glad I scratched the itch to make a road trip to visit TMS last fall. It's gonna be a lot harder after the move back to the other half of the country.

Dennis, all the best on the move!

Re: Does anyone recognise this Gibson?

Pickguard missing, scrapes on the top, cracks (?). I would not give more than $500, considerably less if the mentioned cracks are unrepaired or otherwise significant.

    and thanks, rcc56, I agree...

Re: Does anyone recognise this Gibson?

Looks like a late 1940's or early 50's A-50. I had one from that era and it did not have a serial number. But you may be able to find a Factory Order Number (FON), which would help pin down the date....

    Re: Hills of Connemara

Are any of the settings at https://thesession.org/tunes/3283 more like it?

edit: oops, the link you gave and the first setting at thesession.org are identical. the second setting at thesession...
  8. Re: If you always wanted one of those sunfish style mandolins

Wow. I can honestly say I have never seen one more like that.

Re: Did Bill Collings Sign All Or Some?

Me too. The Collings labels are pretty "busy", so the signature is sometimes hard to find. But I think he signed them all up until ...

Re: Please allow me to introduce myself...

One of the links posted above was to thesession.com, which is incorrect. The correct link is thesession.org. A great site for Celtic tunes, old and new. If you don't do music notation or ABC...

    Re: Who?

I don't sing. I just don't. But I remember my mother trying to coax me: "If that Bob Dylan is making a living, you could be a millionaire."

Re: Tied notes in TablEdit - How?

No, actually, I am transcribing from a rather simple piano arrangement. I am interpreting the arcs in question to indicate phrasing and if so they really change the character of the introduction to...

Re: Tied notes in TablEdit - How?

Thanks for all the suggestions. "Legato" seems to do the trick. Here is what I have been able to do using the Legato function:

Tied notes in TablEdit - How?

Here is a screenshot of a bit of the intro to a Stephen Foster tune:

How do I get the ties to show in TablEdit? There is a button to click for tied notes but I haven't been able to get it...

    I guess I never saw a bear playing a guitar left-handed before.

    Thanks for the tune!
  17. Re: Flop Eared Mule -- by Stephen Foster (?!?!?!)

Sometimes I wonder -- do you think Roy Clark had as much fun playing showoff tunes as he appeared to be having? He really was jam full of talent on just about anything with "strangs".

    And the Holy...

    Re: Upgrading a tailpiece

Actually, the tailpiece is probably less problematic than some other aspects of your mandolin, if it is anything like the LM270 (or was it 290?, I don't remember) I had. Number one, if you haven't...

Re: Mandolin Set-up E-Book by Rob Meldrum

Usually he is pretty prompt to reply if he sees the keywords in the subject line of the email. See instructions below. I think he gets a lot of junk in his inbox and without the keywords he may miss...
  21. Re: Help with time signature: Lankum - Old man from over the sea

The rhythm pattern is quite interesting, for sure. I can't feel it as a 6/8 unless I ignore my experience with jigs and (some) marches - those are basically two triplets per measure, I am feeling...
  22. Re: Flop Eared Mule -- by Stephen Foster (?!?!?!)

There IS a mule in there! (and by golly I'm gonna find it)

I do enjoy good fiddling and unexpected quotes from one classic in another.
  23. Re: Help with time signature: Lankum - Old man from over the sea

I get the following repeating pattern: 123-5-, which could make it 6/4 or 3/2 . Neither is a time signature I know anything about except that Irish traditional music does have a few "three-two's"...
  24. Flop Eared Mule -- by Stephen Foster (?!?!?!)

OMG - My radio alarm is tuned to KQAC-FM, our local classical music station, and I awoke this morning to Flop Eared Mule! Really! The announcer came on afterwards and identified it as "Holiday...
