  1. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

I got a fairly quick reply, which I posted above, using the contact form on the website, so I am not sure why you are not also hearing back. You might try emailing the email address my reply came...
  2. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

Yes, it is very unfortunate. I have only bought a couple dozen, but they are still my favorite. What I can't understand is they said the set was discontinued due to not enough sales, but they still...
  3. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

I got a reply from George at D'Addario (was the other person he mentions in the email you, @peter.coombe?)"

    "Hello,
    Thank you for your message.
What a coincidence. I had someone ask me about...
  4. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

Good advice, but I only found a couple and they are quite expensive, like $21 + $19 shipping for one set...
  5. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

Yeah, I have several packs, but they will eventually all be gone. They are by far my favorite strings and as Peter Coombe said, there is nothing really comparable. Unfortunate.
  6. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

I agree with Peter Coombe that it can't hurt to send them a complaint. I just did. Maybe if enough people complain they will at least notice. Here is the "contact" link:...
  7. Re: D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

Yep, sorry, I can't believe it either. And try finding any, even on Reverb or Ebay... :(

D'Addario EFT74 strings discontinued - does anyone know why?

I really like these strings with the wound A-string, but found out they are no longer made. I bought all I could find, but they won't...
  9. Re: Any experience with an R.G. Noyes Octave mandolin?

It is being listed again, still curious of anyone has experience with instruments by this builder:

  10. Re: Any experience with an R.G. Noyes Octave mandolin?

Well, someone else bought that one... Still interested in case others come along.
  11. Any experience with an R.G. Noyes Octave mandolin?

I am not familiar with this builder but am looking online at an octave mandolin he built for sale. Since I can't see it in person, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with instruments he has...

    Re: Paul Hathway Octave Mandolin

Gertz, thanks for this thoughtful reflection on the two instruments. I wish I had an opportunity to play a Hathway and compare it with my Eastman my Daunt Lee Minstrel octave mandolins. I have yet to...

    Re: Paul Hathway Octave Mandolin

Really? I missed it. Don't see one now, but you posted that 6 days ago. I would really like to find another one to have as a backup. Any chance you might think about selling or trading yours? Please...

How cool! I do not think he made more than a few. I love mine! Here is a photo of the label through the sound hole:

  15. Re: Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

Thanks. Yes, I check it regularly for something that meets my wishes and is in my price range...

I think I just quoted you, but only in this private forum...

    :))
  17. Re: Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

That is what I thought as well, but as you can see from the screen shot from Ebay a couple posts above, it quotes the import duty to be ~25% of the purchase price for a similar musical instrument...
  18. Re: Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

FYI, this is from EBAY UK. Note the import charge ($230). Actually shipping ($48) is less than I would have thought. But the bottom line is that together they add almost $300 to the price of the...

  20. Re: Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

Thanks for that genius idea! I did that and Ebay listed the price, shipping, and "U.S. import charges," which amounted to 25% of the cost of the instrument. Yikes! That plus international shipping...
  21. Re: Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

Bren, thanks. I went down the CBP rabbit hole once and still could not figure it out for sure. But maybe I will try it again. It does look like duty is a maximum of 6% for the U.K. if I am reading it...
  22. Tax and import duty buying a mandolin from the UK?

I live in the U.S. and am hoping to buy an octave mandolin from Paul Hathway in the U.K. In addition to the price and shipping, which I got in an email from Paul, I understand I will have to pay...

    Re: Paul Hathway Octave Mandolin

I recall seeing that Lafferty octave mandolin for sale in the CBOM Classifieds a couple weeks ago, I believe for $1800, and when I went back to look for it later that day it was already gone. What...

    Re: Paul Hathway Octave Mandolin

Any more thoughts on Paul Hathway's OMs? I am considering buying one but have never heard or played one. They look nice and are reasonably priced. Maybe just me, but my personal preference is one...
