    Good deal on F cases

Couple of NOS cases at Intermountain for $65.

Good quality, and not easy to find these days:

Re: Considerations for buying early F4?

How are you enjoying the new mando? I saw it when it was listed at Gruhns. A real looker! :)

    Re: Case handle replacements?

Thanks Jim. I'm familiar with this great resource :) I have a memory that a forum member here was making replacement case handles in the old style. Just can't find the posts. Was a few years ago...

I know there have been some available in the past. Anything currently out there?

    Thanks
  5. Re: 1923 gibson f-5 master model mandolin brochure lloyd loar

Guess it's all relative. Would you pay $90 for the original pamphlet of a $10,000 instrument you own? Or $9 for a $1000 instrument you own?

I've certainly done the latter in my time.

    Never...

Re: 1911 2-point F4 with a Torch and Wire Inlay

Right :) The Ebay listing shows a "best offer accepted" so that'll be why it disappeared. Just opportunist of the Japan scammer to grab the auction photos and details.

Re: 1911 2-point F4 with a Torch and Wire Inlay

This mandolin was literally sold the day before by a reputable US company. The text and photos from their ad were copied verbatim into the Japanese listing.

The Ebay listing was legit. Cornerstone Music. That's their carpet in the photos - matches all their other listings and actual shop website listings.

Re: $2000 F2 at Gruhns - worth flagging

Hopefully for the buyer it's stable.

Agree with the above sentiments - the price tag could double in a worse-case scenario.

Possibly a luthier bought it. Only costing their time to get it up...

D'Addario XS strings at 21 months.

Made a wee video showing off the D'Addario XS strings after 21 months on my F4.

They really do still sound great to my ear. They are dulling a little around the picking region, but far better...

Rare and amazing! But just looks darn wrong to me.

I'll stick to my regular F4s and 5s thanks :)

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

The headstock overlays were ebony in this era. This one has a very distinctive striped ebony!

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Maybe the case. It just seems strange to me that someone would take photos of their computer screen rather than just downloading the photos and posting them. Or just taking photos of the instrument?...

Re: What has happened to Elixir mando strings?

Can be done, but you won't find a 40 if you're making up a medium set, or a 34 if you're trying to replicate their light gauge set. They do a 35, so that would work fine for a light gauge set. For...

Re: XT we barely new ya!

    Re: Bravo D'Addario XS Strings!

Just checking in - I've had these XS strings on my F4 for 15 months and they still look and sound great.

I play at home only, around 20 mins a day. No audible dulling. No intonation issues.

Re: Fingerboard replacement due to CITES

I purchased a mandolin internationally from Carters last year. They took care of the necessary CITES paperwork.

It took a few months I have to admit, and cost around $200, but arrived safe and...
