    Tie a knot in the loop and hang it over a tuner shaft ... for now,

    next string change you can use the loop around the headstock, among the tuners half way out..

    the 4 D and A strings...

    @ one point Gibson made a Mandolin sized 6 string guitar , never touched one in person..

    There are fractional sized guitars, that are guitar shaped too 2-4, 3-4 etc.. like in violins ..

    On a standard Mandolin scale of 14" my low C is as you describe .. a 15 or 16 for the A 25 for D

    buy an acoustic one for the tone, add a stick on pickup
    if he needs a loud performance sound level . later..

    as a guitar player he'd probably leave its tuning standard uke..

    Image in 5 is a hybrid an F5 neck on an oval hole F body ... because the bridge is shifted closer to the sound hole ,
    with the neck being 12th fret out , on the neck, not over the body..

    My 10-38 set , mandolin , is also lower action , which is definitely easier on the finger tips,..

    But bluegrass seems to need projection , which means heavier strings
    you can pick...

    those locks are rudimentary on those.. and so, a locksmith should be able to pick it open in 60 seconds..

    no real purpose in locking it.. someone will grab it and run, not stay & open it..
