    Re: I started a blog!

I caught when you said that you were still a teen. But you do write much better than 95% of your age group. Must be the home schooling! :)

    Re: Fingerstyle mandolin

My journey into fifths-tuned ukuleles has led me to explore fingerpicking on mandola. Adds another color to the palette, for sure!

    Re: This is mind blowing....

Was that the point all along, for real? I always wondered what their name meant, but never put 2 and 2 together because the accent on mandarin is on the first syllable, and the accent on mandolin is...

Re: tenor uke to mandolin tuning

Tenor ukes work great in CGDA mandola tuning. GDAE, not so much - you need a shorter scale uke.

    Re: Round picks

Hi Victor, good to "see" you, too! Good points - real music (versus synthetic) includes its many integral extraneous sounds, and each of us has our personal tolerance/annoyance thresholds. The only...

    Re: Round picks

When I first started my plectrum journey, though I liked their articulation capabilities, I was very clumsy with pointed picks, getting them easily hung up in the strings, so I opted for rounder...

Thanks for posting. These types of little-known musical/cultural traditions from isolated parts of the world are fascinating to me. This one reminded me somewhat of the whistling language on the...

    Re: Timple in 5ths tuning

Very interesting! I only visited Lanzarote briefly, and of course I didn't know about a long-necked timple - learn something new each day! In that case, I don't know how to attain that tuning. I...

    Re: Dots or no dots

I prefer side markers only, I don't need them very often, but it's nice to have them there. But I just don't get the ones on the fretboard. If you bend over far enough to see them, you're hurting...

    Re: Timple in 5ths tuning

Patrick, how are you measuring it? Because that doesn't sound right. The scale length is the vibrating string length only - from nut to bridge saddle. A whole timple canario is barely more than...

    Re: What's up with USPS?

Our main problem with the USPS has been on the local level, when the regular carrier has the day off or is on vacation and one of her substitutes is working the route. Our regular carrier is great -...

Re: Always surprised how people send stuff

Years ago I got (and have since resold) a Romanian mandola, like a Hora but with the Troubadour brand. Not sold with a case or bag. It was shipped to me in Florida from England in just a thin...

    Re: Becoming a Luthier-How?

  25. Re: Question for notation-reading CGDAE-instrument players

I prefer option C. Am I the only one who likes it, other than Jim? I don't even play piano, or have my low CGDAE instrument yet (being built right now), but it is the easiest one to read, for me. ...
