    Re: Education

I completely agree with Pittsburgh Bill!
These are incredibly complicated pieces of engineering, as much art as science. Every mandolin I have played has been different from the previous one. Your...

    Re: Left-Handed Players

    Wow, I’m flattered!
I feel like I’ve voiced my opinion on the subject way too often. Playing righty has some serious advantages not the least of which is the ability to walk into any music store and...

Re: F-4 owned by Norman Blake

Thereís another 1917 down the page, $500 premium for the Norman Blake mojo doesnít seem TOO bad.
  7. Re: I put new strings on and positioned the bridge myself

Get a job at a music store and teach ten rookies a day how to change strings, you learn! I used to tell people Iíd do the first two changes for free after that, it was going to be ten bucks each...

  9. Re: I put new strings on and positioned the bridge myself

I donít think Iíd use 3-in-1 on a fingerboard under any circumstances! But, thatís just me it strikes me rather like pennzoil to season a cast iron skillet!
Tung oil, Watco Danish oil, yes but never...
  10. Re: I put new strings on and positioned the bridge myself

Three years for a set of strings, thatís crazy. Iíve had to change strings after three days! When I was playing out five to six nights a week with a night of rehearsal in there to boot.
    If I play,...

  15. Re: Suggestions for Online posting of musical content for payment

Once it’s out there, it’s out there, payment after the fact is pretty doubtful. As for vanity? Who cares!
Start your own YouTube channel and try to get sponsors I guess.

Re: Nut Slots Cut Too Low

Baking powder and CA glue in the offending slot and refile?
Did you do the set up? If you paid for it, Iíd take it back and let the luthier make it right.
  17. Re: Suggestions for Online posting of musical content for payment

I guess I don’t quite understand your question, do you want to post original music and expect to be paid for it after it’s been posted? Or are you talking about a subscription to access your original...

How does one “Tap” a mandolin? If you tap this I don’t even think you’d get sap!

    Re: Burns & Clark

I don’t see any tape on the peghead. There is nothing so humbling than watching Jethro just letting it “come out” he plays with a completely unflappable smoothness, Roy’s no slouch either!
