agreed ~~ They are the best! I really enjoyed my visit a few months ago
  3. Re: Where to shop for a quality Mandolin in Southern California?

Allot to consider even if buying a lower appointed mandolin and especially when a well appointed one. The set-up can cost a few bucks and not sure if the stores close are familiar with mandolins. If...

Re: Help! Buying my first mandolin!

You may want to consider warranty, the original owner of an Eastman gets a lifetime warranty on the instrument. I bought a MD305 for the same reasons of others, to use at campfires, jams etc....

Re: Help deciding on a new mandolin

Kentucky ~~ Eastman is kinda a Chevy ~~ Ford thing. I like my Eastman 305 but then it is my campfire mandolin~~I LOVE my Collings MT2 but then there are other opinions!

  8. Re: Gibson A-4 (1915/1917)óWorth it to repair, or just return?

Again it would be a Bummer to cannibalize a complete vintage Gibson mandolin simply for profit.
    Sorry just saying
  9. Re: Gibson A-4 (1915/1917)óWorth it to repair, or just return?

Surely would be a bummer to make this wind up in the scrap heap! I hate to see historic items wasted for parts value and then they are GONE!

Just a heads up on the cost East/West. Just heard back from a recommended Luthier and his estimate was the same as yours for a complete re-fret.
  12. Re: Gibson A-4 (1915/1917)óWorth it to repair, or just return?

Since I am considering a Gibson Oval Hole myself I find this very interesting. You are very lucky to have found a great looking mandolin and have received some very good advice.
    If the ebay seller...

    Re: Fret Dressing?

    Thanks guys
I am going to back away from this one at this time, I just cannot justify the costs involved with the purchase/shipping and then the repairs.
    Good learning curve though!

    Re: Fret Dressing?

Thanks! My concerns are valid and I need to keep this in mind on the purchase.
How playable do you consider one in this condition? or will the repair need to be completed right away

    Fret Dressing?

Getting close on a 20's Gibson A. Looks like the Frets may need a Dressing. Not sure how bad these are & if they are playable.
Curious how much this may cost in So. Cal.
    Thanks in advance

Re: Not all Collings hold their value

consider that the "original owner" gets a "lifetime warranty" the next purchaser has to keep that in mind~~and the warranty has a value.

    Re: Gibson?

Thanks for the heads up on the '13 A. I am leaning more towards a black top now. I only want one of these to be a caretaker for so I need to get something that lights my fire.

Bummer is the more we learn the more we know. Started looking for a lower end vintage Gibson but now not sure since I will most likely be buying online & may need to reconsider buying lower end.
