Nice tune - sounds single course?
Ain’t nothing like linguistic evolution.
I’ll bet Brian May have liked that mini “Red Special” too ;-)
Tip of the hat your way while wondering which handful of mandolins were your favorite builds.
I could use some remedial physics. Thanks for posting the interview which I found both instructional & enjoyable.
I also favor the follow-up ideas with a look into the Belmuse workshop, and a...
That’s one sharp machine.
Fred Kelly derlin speed picks do alright. It’s easy to hold since it’s got a thumb hole (think bowling>>Pete Townsend did>who?) - kinda like a hybrid combination of pick & thumb pick. Derlin is some...
Glad to see Elderly with some more mandolin electricity now that Blue Star Mandoblaster’s out of production.
& electric can be easier on the fingers.
Blue Star's electric Mandoblaster came in blue, 4 or 5 string.
You might try a used Godin A8 mandolin - I think a new one is around $750+.
Fiddle man got out & ran with it - nice.
And there's the Fred Kelly speed pick.
It's good to have an in-house sound engineer ;-)
That psychedelic wah-wah sound is compelling on the Bobover Khupe March -what are you running the mandolin through on that number?
The Blue Star 5 string (stock new is $650ish-they might have custom options) seems pretty durable, but it does look kinda electric guitarish. I thinks it's a 14" scale, C G D A E.
Avi Avital: made to wade in mandolin shade
I had a used 4 string strat briefly. When it arrived, a screw on the pickguard near the jack was loose. I tightened the screw, but the threading was shot, and the pickguard kept popping out so I sent...
I also enjoy the 5 string Blue Star Mandoblaster. I found that moving from 4 strings, or 8, to 5 strings made sense to me when playing melodies with some 3 string chords, and that the extra 5'th was...
I play mandolin occasionally with a ukuleer. We have 2 go to songbooks: The Daily Ukulele- 365 Songs for Better Living compiled and arranged by Liz and Jim Beloff; and The Daily Ukulele Leap Year...
Terrific reference from an accommodating American altruist - to the commodore.
My dog's particularly accomplished at fetching melodies - he can't make a mandolin, but he can reduce one to splinters.
Sometimes a little Left Hand Polestar Pilsner eases a man's fretting.
Maybe a Fred Kelly Speed Thumb Pick would help. They're cheap so there's not much to lose. I think the white ones are stiffest, orange ones in the middle, and yellow ones most flexible. You can just...
The Mandostang might be a little smoother playing than the Mandobird, but I still like playing the bird.
I rarely play clean settings, and the 'stang's pickup output is adequate for the dirty sounds...
