There's a few of us around.
Dave - I too bought that Doc poster in T-Ride. Rainbow doves flying out of his Gallagher guitar....The first time I heard Doc Watson was when I was an 18 yr-old punk rocker. It was his version of...
Wow - I just found this out (currently live w/out internet or computer access). I'm utterly floored by this sad & terrible news.
I met John a few times when I lived on Peaks Island years ago. He...

Mike & Hamilton do a beautiful version of "Sao Jorge" on their cd.
Rich - off-topic question: Couldn't help but notice your Beardsell avatar. How do you like it? Very intriguing.
Thile/Daves were great. Love the tribute to BG duets. Hey Don, heading to gig at the Alb. Folk fest today. Any chance of crossing paths?
FYI people -
T-ride BG Fest is streaming live again on KOTO-fm.
I heard Steve Earle's set last night - brilliant as usual.
Then the big boys - SB, BF, JD, BS, etc., etc. tore up the night w/...
Okay...another big hockey (Go Wings) fan arriving late to this party. Congrats to Tim Thomas (fellow Flint native) on what some are saying was maybe the best goalie performance ever in SC history. ...
Just got the Ukulele Songs cd & the Water on the Road dvd. Both are great.
Jim,
No doubt! I'm still catching up on some much needed sleep.
Thanks for the pic, Jim. I was hoping you'd post it here. I had an absolute blast picking w/ you all at Road Runner Rd.
Feeling it might be finally time to get a Hilburn of my own...
In the new DBT film, "The Secret to a Happy Ending", there's a great clip of Patterson Hood doing "Bulldozers and Dirt" on a mando.
I found a decent version of it (not from the doc) from one of...
Beautiful, Jim. Will we be seeing it at George fest?
Scott
I've been doing "Pocohontas" in E.
Learned from the Gillian Welch/David Rawlings live version.
I'm sure there's a youtube of it somewhere's.
I keep checking the homepage for "10 Questions For Jack White".
Nice one, Niles. I always think of that quote whenever anyone asks for advice.

Maybe we should start a "Master's of the Mandolin" social group dedicated to working on stuff from this book.
More favorites: Jimmy Gaudreau's solos to Jerusalem's Ridge and both Sam Bush's &...
The mandolin is made for easy travel, imo. FWIW, I've travelled many times w/ mando and never had an issue and I'll be taking it to Mexico for Christmas in a few weeks.
I do have another...
I, too, have every issue except the new one. Time to renew the subscription. Love that Beardsell mando in the last issue.
Never tried to figure it out but Ryan Adams does a nice version on acoustic guitar. Check it out on itunes or something - might give you some ideas.
For me, the stripped-down, two-chord live version from the Smithsonian cd is the best - though I've yet to hear the Skaggs take. Simple, yet powerful.
I'll take Niles vs. anyone. Mando or karate chops.
For fiddle tunes: The Fiddle Fakebook & Butch Baldassari's 30 Fiddle Tunes for Mandolin. These two will keep you busy for years.
