    Re: Pentatonic scales

So, I'm working through some of the exercises in The Pentatonic Mandolin. I get that if you're playing the G major pentatonic scale, you don't play C or F# (4th and 7th). I'm thinking if I try to...
  2. Re: Copying from a PDF to Word - or Editing a PDF

Thanks, Rob. I tried the "select tool" thing and once again got gobbledy gook.
  3. Copying from a PDF to Word - or Editing a PDF

I've been purchasing leadsheets, but sometimes have to buy sheet music with piano accompaniment. It occurred to me that, rather than cutting the music apart and taping the solo parts back together,...
  4. Re: Need Help w/Chord Chart Search Term

Thanks, David. I found this to get me started.188547

For others who may be interested, there are lots of these to choose from if you Google "harmonizing scales."
  5. Need Help w/Chord Chart Search Term

I can do my own research to find this, but I don't know the proper search term. I'm looking for a chord chart that will give me I, II, etc. chords for each key. Any suggestions?

    Re: Pentatonic scales

Question for anyone who has this book:

Where do you suggest shifting from/to first position in exercises 2 and 3? I can always ask my teacher, but maybe some has figured this out???

    Re: Developing Finger Independence

Thanks to Ranald and Mark for their comments. I was trying to give context to the video I posted. In the process I seemed to have made the post about my teacher, which was not intended. I'm...

    Re: Developing Finger Independence

I've mentioned many times in the Forum my teacher is a professional violinist. She is an amazing teacher, although I feel she demands a little too much perfection from me, as a late-in-life learner...

    Re: Learning Song Variations?

Wow, bigskygirl! That's a great resource. I don't play much bluegrass, so maybe there's something similar for other genres. I'll have to see.

    Re: Learning Song Variations?

Jim, thanks for your input. I've played alone all 5+ years I've been playing - except that I played with a group of guitarists, a bass and a harmonica player at the senior center for a year or so...

    Re: Pentatonic scales

Just ordered The Pentatonic Mandolin. It shows as advanced, which I'm not, but hope to get there.

    Here's another one:

    8. Mark all the I, IV, V, etc. chords and play the chords in multiple keys while incorporating earlier steps as appropriate.

    Learning Song Variations?

I usually either have a lesson (from my classical violinist teacher), practice alone or play through some pieces alone for my own enjoyment. To enhance the whole experience, and to prepare for...

    Re: Pentatonic scales

I'm interested in working on pentatonic scale exercises - not from a video, but from written notation. Looks like one of these may be the best resource???

Ranald, I'll try that exercise you mentioned. You might check out my "Developing Finger Independence " thread. I've been doing Brad Laird's finger exercises.

    Re: F7 Chord

Dillon, this is a great resource. It is much like smartChord, which I have on my phone, but, unlike smartChord, the chords are all on one page and easy to see on my PC monitor.

    Re: F7 Chord

I need to study this more but wanted to mention the version I have uses Am7. With the sample I could only print the first page, but transposing from G, I presume G9 becomes D9 and F7 becomes B7.
