Re: Ever heard of a "guitar chair?!"

The seating position for guitar v Mando is quite different. For me, a straight backed chair would be awful.

  2. Re: Northfield M, a Step Up From My KM-900?

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Most people don’t realize that the new pickguard bracket allowed the pickguard to act as an external Virsi-type device, hence the enhanced tone.
  4. Re: Cheap beater mandolins that play, for leaving in the car etc?

Given the thefts from cars lately, perhaps having a tempting target for the unknown thief may not be the wisest idea.

    it could happen..........

Really nice. Such fun with the clarinet. Great to see you playing. We're watching your student, Kaden Hurst, as much as we can here in pdxland.

  7. Re: Cheap beater mandolins that play, for leaving in the car etc?

As a tradesman, I bought high quality tools, used them as often as needed, ie, daily, and tried not to trash them as they were often expensive and couldn’t be replaced in the middle of the work day. ...

  9. Re: Clarification on Finger to Fret assignment

As the responses indicate, the answer is 'it depends'.

However you finger something, if its clean, smooth and up to speed, its correct.

  10. Re: Clarification on Finger to Fret assignment

Or you could play B (d string 9th fret). C# (d string 11th fret) and G ( A string 10th fret). Finger 1-2-1. Depends on what comes before and after.

    Just a thought.

    Re: Gypsy-Jazz Style Mandolin Plans

Pencil and paper or CAD skills come to mind. Chose a scale length and draw. Some folks have shrunk archtop guitar plans.

I think making a plan and elevation in full size is quite a useful...

Re: Tuning up a Traditional Brekke Bridge

I would think reaching out directly to Vern Brekke would a good solution.

Btw, Bruce Weber put one on my Absaroka and it also raised the action to ‘mostly unplayable’. I put the original Brekke...

    Re: Happy Birthday, Mandolin Cafe!

Keeping Mando players out of bars and off the streets for 26 years, (maybe a little), no mean feat.

    Happy Birthday :)

  24. Re: Stewmac shipping outrageously expensive and NOT eco-responsib

Stewmac, while itself a very niche business, is a small part of a private equity firm. It is certainly not a ‘small’ business.
  25. Re: Best way to approach learning chords, vamping on mandolin?

I think triads, the root, third and fifth, learned along with the two inversions, is the place to start. Simple to make minors or sevenths.

Using open strings, you could also do one and two...
