    Re: Shaping an archtop

Thanks Jeff, to be honest I used to post a far bit on this forum, I remember why I stopped now.

I build things for a living, I was trying to show how I can save time and thought a few builders...

    Re: Shaping an archtop

Understandable and a fair point but, I have been wielding a grinder for around 45 years now, I learnt my trade as a boat builder and a 4” grinder was in my hands on my first day.
    I put up a video...

    Re: Shaping an archtop

Well the wood is difficult to recognise, it comes from an old church pew and I know the church is over 200 years old.
It looks like ceda but does not have that distinctive smell and seems much...

    Shaping an archtop

Not a mandolin in this case but the same method would apply to any archtop.
I started off using gouge's and mini planes, I can remember it taking me two full days to carve a 6 string acoustic...

Re: Blueridge BR40T or Ibanez AVT1?

A nice Christmas present then, if in the future you should ever want to tune the guitar closer towards its full potential, it is quite possible to reduce and reshape the soundboard bracing.
    I am...

Re: Blueridge BR40T or Ibanez AVT1?

There are thousands of words written on this forum about the Blueridge, generally they are well built and well liked.

They are perhaps a little over built with strong bracing and in fact are rated...

Re: Blueridge BR40T or Ibanez AVT1?

Hi Bruce, both nice guitars, I thing the Blueridge is a better built instrument but the Ibanez is still a nice model however …. they both have a 23” scale, you might enjoy one with a shorter scale?

    Re: Small archtop

I tried the guitar with nylon and steel, it seems to work perfectly with either with very little defection on the soundboard.

Thanks for the likes, the back has an interesting feature in the form of a piece of lead!

    Small archtop

I have been making a small tenor to order (Christmas delivery) it is not much bigger than a Baritone ukulele but will be strung CGDA in steel.
20.5” scale pine soundboard is from a 200 year old...
  15. Re: Recommendations for a tenor to hold lower tunings

The Blueridge BR 40 or 60 are nice large body Tenor guitars, it would seem that tenor players are very happy to own one!
In the Uk they are sold in a few places including Amazon if they have any,...

I started building an archtop tenor guitar, the back plate is apple wood, as I was getting deeper into what looked like a clean piece of wood, I started to notice a knot appearing!

    The wood was...

    Re: Tension/strings on a BR 40-T

There is some variation in the string calculators and obviously personal preference as well so I dont think there will be a ‘one for all’ set.

    Re: Tension/strings on a BR 40-T
