    Chords for Christmas Time's A-Comin'?

Does anyone know where I can find the chord progression or a chord chart for "Christmas Time's A-Comin'"? (Assuming, of course, that there's no copyright issue with doing so).

    Thanks!
  3. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Exactly! Where does my foot go?!

By the way, I bought your book on twin mandolin, and I find it fascinating, though, of course, most of it is still beyond me. But as I said, I can play breaks...
  4. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

This is so spot on. Foot tapping has always seemed like one more thing to do that I have to focus on to make happen. I also find that when I do tap my foot along, I'm always tapping on the off beat...
  5. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

This is just it. In the education world, we sometimes call it cognitive overload. I think some of the suggestions here will help reduce the overload.

For example, today I worked with just my...
  6. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Now there's the kind of really practical advice I need! Though maybe 'Yeahhhhh. . ." is a little too jazzy; what would a bluegrasser say?
  7. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

That's encouraging. I've been curious about that Band in the Box program. Maybe I'll give it a look.
  8. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

I'm sorry I've not been quick to respond to y'all this week; it's been an especially full one for us, but I really appreciate all your thoughts.

Several of y'all mentioned metronomes. I have...
  9. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Thanks, Speacock. I like this idea. I don't think I've really tried it, but my son would do with it me, and he could give me good feedback as I went. And then I could try positioning near him, as...
  10. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

It all happened kind of accidentally. Nobody who knew me ever would have predicted it, but itís been a lot of fun and a real blessing for our familyólike the unexpected things often are.
  11. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

When it comes to music, self-suspicion is always my first instinct.
  12. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Yes, Iím afraid my band mates have more traditional tastes than that!
  13. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Thanks! I'll take a look at it.
  14. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Thanks for asking. Yes, our family band is me on mandolin, my wife on bass (amplified acoustic bass, due to some recent surgery), a son on banjo, a daughter on fiddle, and another son on guitar. ...
  15. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

I do sometimes look at my son's right hand on guitar to orient me. My banjo-playing son sometimes has two feet going--it's on beat but a bit much to follow [insert family-friendly banjo player joke...
  16. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Thanks for this distinction; I hadn't articulated it for myself so clearly. Timing is definitely also a problem for me, and this will help me disentangle the challenges.
  17. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

I'm going to have to get a notebook to get all these ideas down! I like it. Thanks!
  18. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Yes, it's often a little overwhelming, but I'll keep in mind the counting--especially when trying to come in--and maybe my lazy brain will finally do its part one of these days.
  19. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

That's a nice thought! But I'm afraid I've got too much external evidence that my wife and kids are solid--and one son in particular is a rhythm machine. So I'm afraid I'm going have to take the...
  20. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Wow! Such a lot of help, so fast! Thanks to everybody for your suggestions and for taking me seriously, even when I have little claim on musical seriousness.

MikeZito, this makes a lot of...
  21. Re: Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

Thanks, Mike. I have tried this, but I thinking my singing often starts to wander. But maybe combining this with some of the suggestions below about foot-tapping and a little help from my bandmates...
  22. Help! I can't hear the beat when I play a break

I know this forum has tons of skill and a lot of heart, so I hope y'all can help me with a problem that keeps me from playing breaks with our little family bluegrass band.

    While I have -- after...

    Re: Breaking the TAB habit

I'm more or less a perpetual beginner myself, so take this suggestion with a grain of salt. But I have made the most progress in trying to figure out a tune by ear when I started with pentatonic...

    Re: Public Domain

Thanks to everyone for this discussion. It's been very illuminating. My family has just recently begun playing at some local nursing homes, so I found DavidKOS' and Allen Hopkins' contributions...

Re: Help me identify this tune

To me, it sounds like Winder Slide. Great tune!
