Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

That's it! I got it originally when they first came out. At that time I was building a duet repertoire with a guitar player and I was focused on my mandolin. Now with COVID, not doing that! So, I...

Re: In search of a mandolin...

figure the cost of the cheapest violin you'd enjoy. Divide that by a half. That's about the mandolin budget you should target.

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

I bought the Eastman MDO-3xx a-model. Can't quite recall the last digits of the OM; however. It's fun!

Re: What's your new fiddle tune?

Now I'm retooling all my fiddle tunes to the octave mandolin. Pinky struggles! Position struggles! Tempo struggles!

    Having a blast!

Re: Looking for information on a Gibson mandolin

    Hi OP!

RIP to your Dad. Very cool A2Z! Glad you got the scoop from those that know. Don't know much about the others, but for guitars a bit. I bet that Gibson's a fine box; however.

    big fan of the 1N!

Love my A3 for old-time too!

I do think the modern bench-made pancakes are getting a lot of attention; however. I just have my 1N and love it!

Re: Larger frets for 1920 Gibson A-4

I changed mine out 30 years ago - 1920 A3. Kind of wished I had the narrow ones; however.

I tend to play with a heavy hand and will push the notes sharp.

    Re: How to remember tunes?

I have a gift of remembering melodies. There are many melodies within my head.

Endless entertainment too! Seems I'm always thinking of some melody - up there in my head. I walk down the hallway...

    Re: Builder or Company

Muth may do an f-style in that price range? He's in Canada.

    Seems few bench-made f-style mandolins are sub-$3,500?

Stiver used may really be the answer?

    Re: The Myth of Perfection

    two thoughts:

It's like a Persian rug. Were it not for the imperfections, you'd think it made by a machine. (An echo in my mind for decades.)

On the road to excellence, enjoy mediocrity. (My...

Re: Strap for A-style (that old chestnut)

maybe this photo will help? I use an f-style strap for my a/pancake-model mandolins. I turn it around and use the parachord.

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

I had a Saab - late '70s. For a brief spell I had both. Saab got wrecked first in Denver, the Volvo got me to Seattle. Back then I only had my Kay. I did know about white-face Gibsons; however. ...

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

My going-to-jams car for the last 15 years was my E320 Mercedes wagon. After 330,000 miles it got retired for a 4-door sedan.

    Loved my wagon!

Re: I don't like F styles. Anyone else?

    Volvo love!

I was 15 years old. I had a paper route and mowed as many lawns as I could. Neighbor three houses down drove my Volvo. One day, another neighbor boy (his dad owned the NAPA shop)...

Re: Strap for A-style (that old chestnut)

I make a loop of parachord at the end. Use the parachord between the tuning pegs - like pops1! Never thought to try the strap like that?

That's just what I do. Don't want the strap button...

You'da loved my old Volvo! And, yes it drove to festivals back in the early '70s! I mean some mandolin content is needed!
