Re: Tenor ukulele for a CBOM player?

Some food for thought, go over to the Tenor guitar threads & see what cornfield has posted recently regarding putting nylons on banjos, that's one way of giving an audience a different flavour. I've...

Re: Another unusual tenor for sale U.K.

The photo angle of the bridge makes it look like a lefty to my eyes.

    Re: Soares'y Electric Tenor

This my not be helpful for you but I have a Soares'y Tenor resonator guitar (no pickup). It is a good quality instrument! I sent it up to Emerald guitars for them to copy the neck profile on my...
  4. Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

Rather than start a new thread when this is totally related; I just spoke to my luthier, Alistair at Emerald Guitars in Donegal & put the specs together for a GDAE Carbon Fibre Tenor. It'll be a...
  5. Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

My dream is a CGDA acoustic but in the cello range. Never heard one but I know people have had them made.[/QUOTE]

Well if they can do the job of making a ukulele bass sound well, then your dream...

And such a relaxed hold on the plck. Such relaxed everything!!!
  8. Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

Another consideration my be to get some Hannabach series 890 strings for children's 1/8th classical guitar strings. I ordered 6 sets of them yesterday from amazon to try GDAE on a 17" scale Tenor...
  9. Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

18" scale tuned GDAE on normal steel strings seems a bit short to me. I've tried gypsy guitar strings on a 16" concert banjo-uke that sounds ok if that's any help.
  10. Re: Ordered a custom tenor from Davy Stuart

Nice work! At 18" are you going for CGDA tuning?

    Re: Timing for Fleadh compition?

For the Mouthorgan competition they want a "tremolo" Mouthorgan. The brand of choice for all the top players is Tombo. They allow 2 Mouthorgans for the comp, most players use a D & a G Mouthorgan....

    Re: Timing for Fleadh compition?

Fleadh time again 2019. In 2017 I had timing/tempo issues, hence this thread. Thanks to everybody for their great advice, it was big help! Last year it was mostly positive comments from the judges in...

I'll get someone to help me do that next week (I have an All-Ireland final to contest at the Fleadh this weekend).

Re: What should I call this?

I had enough trouble trying to add the photo, I haven't a clue how to do a sound clip. It does sound great though, I brought it to a session in Doolin (Co Clare) on the weekend & within 30 seconds...

    What should I call this?

This is an idea I put up on a previous post. The idea is to split the neck so the 23" tenor GDAE strings can easily be strummed separately. The 25 1/2" bottom FC bass strings are easily...

    Re: Left hand tenor

That's an interesting guitar, I'm finding it hard to tell at which fret is square across the neck, maybe the 7th. It would be nice to know what the scale lengths are!

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

No worries Jill I pm'd you yesterday with my contacts. I definitely won't be competing in mandolin, just looked up the timetable & I'm down for 7 categories at the same time with one being in a...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

If you're passing through Mullingar you most welcome to use my 16" scale mandolin. I'm through to the Leinster fleadh on Mandolin but I don't think I'll compete in it as I'm through in 10 categories...

    Re: 2019 Tune-A-Week Project

Nice! & I enjoyed hearing it on the banjo. What's the greater challenge knowing the tunes or knowing the names of the tunes?
  20. Re: Gypsy jazz tenor guitar at modest price point

Yes I seen/heard a clip somewhere of the Savoy playing GJ that grabbed my attention! It may have been their own promotional material. Self praise can be an exaggeration of course so l'm just...
  21. Re: Gypsy jazz tenor guitar at modest price point

I would still like to hear the opinion of an experienced hand at gypsy jazz playing on the sound of the Rainbird ekoa guitar. I heard a clip of a fella playing GJ on it (i think it was the savoy). It...

@ Scotter is that a tri-cone tenor or single? It looks a single it the photo I’m getting up on my phone.

I have three reso’s, the one above, a Harley Benton reso-bass & a Soares. All tuned GDAE....

Re: Breaking A-Strings in CGDA tuning

I find that plains take the tension better than wounds. I broke a new nickel wound putting it on yesterday & the string was below G# & I was going up slow slow slowly, that’s annoying too

Reso guitars also work for some jazz styles. Above is a b-stock I got from Thomann a while ago. It's scaled at 24" which could be a stretch for gypsy music. It's...

Here is a way of getting a tenor from a 6 string on a budget! The string routing over the bridge saddle keeps the intonation correct for the larger steps in the string gauges...
