This instrument has Serial No. 74753 / FON 11971. It was purchased 20 years ago from Mandolin Brothers who listed it as having a factory refinish.
It appears to have been...
Ok, so it looks like it dates from the late 50's-early 60's. Thank you all for your interest and help!
That helps. Assuming yours is original? This was on a 1923 A model I purchased in 1999.
I'm seeking to identify the vintage of the tailpiece cover shown in the attached photo.
Thank you.
A 1923 A3 as advertised with paddle head and truss rod cover too. Thoughts/comments?

Bought a 75C set at Grey Fox. Put them on at friend's campsite. Went back and bought 3 more sets.
To my ears the Kimble sounds clean and uniform. The Apitius has more overtones, complexity and color. Assume both are F style?

So.....
Serial/FON? The one I have is 74753/11971. Love it to pieces.141093

Allen and Jim - this thread has become so much more than I ever imagined. Thank you. : )
Thanks. I should have Googled first. Based on the serial number stamp on the peghead I assume it's a little earlier in 1939 than the one shown in the link. Also has dot marker position inlays on the...
At a local music store. Sunburst finish. Has silk screened 'Gibson' script logo. 'The Gibson' script tailpiece cover. Pickguard has crumbled. No label or FON visible inside the body. Back of peghead...

Bill's teepee is where it's AT.
Yes. Nashville Straights. I don't remember their being dramatically different but the nifty repackaging must have helped sales some.
