Young'in here, maybe I can give some insight from a area dense with up and coming musicians.
I've been fortunate to be able to live near some great shops and try out some of the "classic"...
as a violist, i got the short end of two sticks trying to find a mandola I could afford and trying to learn an even more obscure and hated instrument.
it's a good thing I settled on a mandolin
I still take for granted how fortunate I am to live in Nashville and be able to go visit all of these shops with nice instruments.
now to just find a jam to play in...
