Each to their own but don’t rely on ever being able to replace the case.

Re: Did Bill Collings Sign All Or Some?

My ‘91 Santa Cruz “Tony Rice” has Tony’s signature on the label. I have it on good authority that he personally scalloped the braces and buffed up the nitro finish before it left the factory!

    Re: Really Basic String Question

Interesting question. I don’t really know but suspect the eventual answer will be “as near as makes no difference”.

    Re: Holoubek tailpiece ??

No, I don’t think that’s original. Ondrej put a standard stamped tailpiece on mine (2002) which is engraved “Holoubek”. Best of luck finding a means of contacting him, he seems to have made an art...

Re: Accompanying a guitarists who tunes down

A late friend of mine once took a guitar exam and, because his nut needed attention, played the piece with a capo on the first fret. When he’d finished, the examiner said that he didn’t understand...

Re: Is there a mandolin equivelent out there?

If the lowest “C” is below the threshold of human hearing, how do you tune the thing?

I suppose I also ought to ask if it would fit in an overhead locker!

Re: Guitar strings on a GBOM?

Guitar strings come with ball ends; which might make a practical difference depending upon the type of tailpiece she has on her GBOM. My Clark GBOM takes ball ends which generally means that I have a...
  10. Re: Pickup options for an F hole octive mandolin

+1 for the MISI endpin jack. I fitted one to a solid bass with an undersaddle piezo which hummed from the day it was fitted - problem solved! (There was nowhere to install a battery). They charge...

Also recently broadcast in the UK on BBC4 - there appear to be only the last 5 (of the 9) episodes left on iPlayer.

Re: Fylde Octavius mandolin string gauge?

Sorry, that should be rogerbucknall@fyldeguitars.com - too many l’s!

It shouldn’t be that hard to fret. Check the setup. Apart from the nut height, check that Fylde hasn’t left a spare shim under...

    Re: R.G. Noyes' Octave mandolin

I suppose that’s the problem with simply posting a link and a couple of photos. You could be the seller, albeit under another name, or you could have some sort of relationship to the seller.

  17. Re: Is this an octave mandolin or octave Mandola? Please help!

Check out the TAMCO website for an explanation - http://www.theacousticmusicco.co.uk/about-tamco/the-mandolin-family-.html

In my mind an octave “mandola” should really be called a “mandocello”.

Wouldn’t it be simpler to replace it? I have both matt and polished (in gold) but the plating is wearing on the polished one and I concluded some time ago that trying to get it re-plated involved too...
