Re: My Pas Washburn Lyon and Healy mandolin

Photos will help. Lyon & Healy Style A mandolins are prized by classical mandolinists, at least in the United States, and can be worth a significant chunk -- not enough to retire on, but better than...

Re: Eastman El Rey Video Review

The other place to get a Lollar mandolin pickup is in the "hot plate" attachment for the National Resophonic RM1. I'm just a few days away from trying one of those out for the first time.

    Alex's...

Re: Eastman El Rey Video Review

Cool. I didn't notice the pickup being angled on the instrument I reviewed ... so perhaps that adjustment was made after my Fretboard Journal review.

Pretty sure the Library of Congress is where we got it! Don't know how I missed the banjo part. Our guitarist doubles on tenor banjo.

The seller is the one who needs help! I don't know what became of the cases, but the ad hasn't been running lately. Best to leave it alone.

Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Lovely Jon Mann 5-string electric on CL ... but why is it $300 more than Jon charges for a new one?

    Re: Old Gibson

Is there a case with it? With any luck, missing parts like bridge, tailpiece cover, maybe even a pickguard clamp, will be stored in the case pocket.

Nashville, Louisville, Knoxville are just some...

Re: Hilary Hahn: Hearing her live

Mandolin content: didn't she and Chris Thile do something together?

Last season I saw Joshua Bell and Itzahk Perlman. Rachel Barton Pine and Hilary Hahn are on my bucket list.

  13. Re: UK Luthier to build 4 String Solid Body Electric Mandolin

Steve from Almuse was talking on Facebook the other day about someone who might be poised to pick up his mantle. You could ask.

This JL Smith has been sitting on eBay (in the States) for a long...

    Re: Suffragette March

This should be everything. Mandocello and mandola parts were published in transposed notation, so I converted them.

I see the actual copyright date is 1910, not 1915.

Paul Shippey might take this on.

John Maddock is actively building electrics, often posts them on the Cafe:

Hey, my orchestra just played a gig for a "Suffragette Centennial" event in Seattle. The women's suffrage movement overlaps with the Golden Age of the mandolin orchestra, so it should come as no...

Don't believe the endpin is original. I've never seen an L&H with an endpin.

Hubert's book has dates for the 3 different headstock styles if you're interested.

Re: Found this old mando in a bookstore

Very interesting. I don't think it is a kit: a kit would have the 12th fret marker in the right place, and the back and sides don't look like they came from a kit.

Is the top arched smoothly, or...
