  3. Re: Best way to test preamp sounds at home?

Why not use an A/B switch and a line splitter?
  4. Re: Speakers/Monitors (no mando content)

Are you playing the bass exclusively through the mains?

If that is the case, get yourself a small bass amp with a DI out.

The QSC CP8's would be a good choice as they match the rest of your...
  5. Re: What are the chances that a moderately-priced mandolin sounds

FWIW, I have a couple of very high end mandolins that mostly live in the case. I take them out on occasion and they need a few hours of playing to wake up.

On the other hand, I have a couple of...

    Re: used mandolin nut setup

This may or may not help

I use a heavier gauge string on my guitars and have found that when I acquire one, often the nut is cut for lighter gauge strings.

I use an old string to widen and...

Put a strap on it an no one will ever see it.
  10. Re: Extreme newbie stringing/tuning questions

Use some graphite in the nut slots and on the bridge. Keeps the strings from binding and prevents some of the breakage problems.

    I use this one:

Re: Pedal novice question re: preamp pedal

Use the insert for an EQ for the mandolin and tuner. Turn the EQ off when using the guitar. Balance the signal levels of the instruments using the gain on the EQ.

I have a very small pedal board...

    Re: Gig material

If the guitar guys don't like it they won't play it, or at least play it well.

Re: How to de-skunk a mando?

I would start with a good cleaning with Dunlop 654.

Just did a banjo for a friend and wiped off about 2 cartons of Marlboros. Made a huge difference in the smell and color of the instrument.

Re: Electric amps with acoustic mandos

I run my mandolin through a Tech 21Q Strip in to a Quilter amp. I use the effects loop for a tuner, a Keeley Memphis and a Nobels ODR-1.

Sound great on both the mandolin and the telecaster. I do...

Re: Upgrades to an Eastman MD315?

    Are the tuners slipping?

Is the bridge not fitted well, not ebony, or have the slots cut badly?

I would start with the tailpiece and get an Allen or something that makes string changing easier.
