  1. Re: Building a higher-end replica Taylor GS-Mini guitar (NMC)

I played one of those Firefly’s about six years ago and can still remember it being one of the best guitars I’ve ever played, despite me being one of the worst players.

Re: Question about scale lengths and tuning...

    Would that be a 5-string Mando-cello?

Maybe that terminology falls apart with 5 string/course instruments

Woah Geno, not sure you can bring a fiery thread from 2004 (unintentionally) into 2020 without explosive results! :))

    Great content though

    Re: F-Style vs A-style ergonomics...

Still been thinking of this... noticed at band practice today that the F style seems to favor hanging in a horizontal position, whereas my A styles seem to naturally favor a little more neck up...

    Re: F-Style vs A-style ergonomics...

I just meant that it took me a little time to adjust to the different feel. I was dialed in to it by the end of each night but it wasn’t initially as comfortable as my played in MT2 that has seen...

    Re: F-Style vs A-style ergonomics...

Neither really, just slightly different. Acclimation was required!

Like millimeters difference here and there in hanging position, and a touch heavier...

Nothing extreme, just more then I...

    F-Style vs A-style ergonomics...

I recently got an F-style mando again after several years with just A-styles.
My initial impression was yeah, it plays essentially the same, just plug in and go.

    But after a couple...

This probably deserves a second mention, seems all too true! Luthiers must love what they do, I dabbled with a few setup things I never got down and completely gave up on the idea of ever becoming...

Re: Body depth - Weber Road Dog & Red Rocks

I am pretty sure the old Weber Bighorns built by Bruce had a larger body cavity, which predates the Northfield bigmon...

I don’t think the bigmon is just deeper, rather slightly larger all around?...

Not the Am, but maybe you could get away with it for the A7?

    I do 9735 for Am

2200 (A5) would work for them all, but wouldn’t have the minor 3rd or 7th to give the right color to the tones

    Re: F style strap recommendation...

Alan, that’s kind of along the lines of what I was envisioning, but now after seeing the small round braids I may have to check one of those... maybe I’ll get both! Lol

    Re: Electric Mandolin Build Help?

As you may know dialing in the high Estring with the pick up can be an issue, getting that right can make or break a four string electric mandolin IMO
