Re: This weeks mandolin that won't get a bid or buyer

Not “custom built” and neither is it yet “antique” but at least it’s not “rare”!

    Re: Arthritis pain relief

You have my sympathy. Fortunately, I don’t have the condition but my wife does. Although she does not play mandolin she is a retired rheumatolology nurse so she is pretty clued up with the disease....

Just to expand on what Brick has said, whilst there are good and bad sound guys (and I’ve worked on both sides of the mic.) the person on stage is usually in the worst position to hear/assess what’s...

    Re: DYN-M Preamp

It also needs phantom power and is primarily designed to plug into a mixing desk. A “preamp” is only required if you’re intending to plug it into a desk without phantom or some other gizmo without it...

Re: RIP Al Williams, founder of Calton Cases

Don’t want to disrespect Al Williams in any way but I thought the founder of Calton Cases was Keith Calton? He built my first one in 1976 and retired a couple of years ago.

    Re: Off to Scotland

The Ordnance Survey maps are infinitely better than those on regular GPS devices but carrying round a full set is expensive and usually impractical. It’s therefore worth checking out hand held GPS...

    Re: Off to Scotland

If you go to Falkirk, also visit the Kelpies but (1) dont rely on sat-nav - ours took us into an industrial estate where others were also driving round lost and (2) park in the first car park -...

    Re: Off to Scotland

I’d normally be in Scotland at the moment but we decided to tour Iceland instead - from where I’m writing this. Personally, I hate Skye. My memory of it goes back to the 1960s and I’ve visited it...
  12. Re: Can anyone tell me anything about this banjolin?

Can’t quite tell from the photos but TJ might have been the person who put all those mis-matched cross head screws in it - they’ve go to go!

  14. Re: What sort of instrument is this and what is it worth?

Its not a Lute its a Saz from Turkey. I havent the slightest idea what its worth but I doubt itll be very much.

    Re: Robson A style tuners

The starting price is well below that which I paid for an un-engraved set but I suppose it depends on what price they end up. The fleabay photo, however, isn’t of the item being sold it’s from Keith...

    Re: DYN-M pre-amp

Assuming the Dyn-m you’re using is the P48, it’s a world away from the K&K. The Dyn-m is a condenser mic which requires phantom power. Plug it directly into a mixing desk and switch the phantom on....

Re: My Pas Washburn Lyon and Healy mandolin

I’d second having a word with Tevor at TAMCO in Brighton. He’s quite approachable and the only thing you have to loose is the price of a ‘phone call. Trevor sold a similar mandolin not that long ago....

Re: Always surprised how people send stuff

Re: What Mandolin Did I Get From the Thriftstore?

Looks to me like a Suzuki from the 1970s to me as well (I thought that before I read your post)
  24. Re: Can anybody help me identify this instrument?

Those tuners look to me as though they’re replacements (....or the manufacturer was saving money on screws).

It looks like a bouzouki so it likely is a bouzouki. Italy isn’t that far from Greece!

    Re: Radiotone Double Chamber Mandolin

Congratulations Tony. Glad someone bought it who’s likely to fix it up and play it. At least it looks like a reasonably straight forward fix. I expected it to have a dovetail and to see far more...
